Descendants of Edward Kennedy
Originally
from Tipperary, Ireland,
Edward Kennedy immigrated to South Australia
on the "Osceola" arriving at Port Adelaide on 5 April 1851. He married Catherine Temple on the 17th September 1851 at
a Catholic Church in Adelaide. They
settled at Dry Creek, north of Adelaide
and had three children, Mary, Thomas & William. Catherine died in 1857 when
only 27 years of age. Six years later Edward remarried Sarah Keogh on the 16th February 1863.
Two of Edward
& Catherine’s children, Mary and William married and moved to Western
Victoria. Mary married John
William Short in 1878 at Mirrabel, S.Aust and the following year her brother
William Kennedy married John Wm. Short’s sister Ellen Short. Mary and John Short moved to Kiata,
Victoria in the early 1880’s and were
living at Woorak, Vic., in 1888. William
and Ellen Kennedy joined them in Woorak,Vic. that year. John and Mary remained in the area.
Following
William Kennedy’s death circa 1899 his widow Ellen eventually moved to Melbourne.
At least three of her sons, Herbert, Alfred & John and their families moved
to Melbourne and settled in
Burnely. Another son Laurence moved to Ouyen, and William settling at Kaniva.
One of their daughters Olive moved to New
Zealand with her husband Arthur
Morriss.
