The Sheehan Family

I have traced my Sheehan family back to James Sheehan, born c.1828 at Tullagh, Clare, Ireland. The son of John Sheehan and Mary Donaghue, James immigrated to Victoria, Australia some time before 1859. He married Mary Carbry, also from Clare Ireland, in Geelong in 1859. To date I haven't been able to locate shipping details on either James or Mary. The couple had 10 children and appear to have moved towns every couple of years. To complicate matters, their children's birth certificates reveal that each time they moved towns James would change his family name. While living in Geelong James went by James Sheehan but in Keilor he was known as James Donohue. A move Woodend and James' name reverted back to Sheehan or Scheen. When living in Montegeetta his name changed to James Donahue and at Wallace Township near Gordons it was James Donoghue. By the 1870's they were living at Kilmore and James name was James Shehan and in Footscray it was back to James Sheehan.  Following the death of James in 1888 his family appear to have moved to Richmond, an inner suburb of Melbourne.
