Benjamin Washburn, son of John Washburn and Mary Magness

According to B.E. Washburn, his grandson by B.F. Washburn's second wife,B.F. Washburn was ambushed and killed by a deserter from the Confederate Army who had previously been in a mental institution - for no apparent reason. According to R.G. Wiley, (whose grandmother Elizabeth Ray Washburn Wiley helped rear him), "B.F. Washburn was shot and killed in his fields by one of his negro hands." - From Roy Taylor. Note: He was Justice of the Peace from 1836 - 1862, alsowas County Coroner, Treasurer of Public Bldgs., County Trustee, Railroad Agent for his county and member of NC House of Representatives. He was a member of the Home Guard during the Civil War.
