I am leaving this section here, even this site is not on tripod or fortune city (well, it is there too, but the site you are viewing right now is not located there) because It is a wonderful easy way to have a great site! So, pretend you are at tripod and read on!
NO need to learn ANY HTML with Trellix!! Trellix
Sure, I can build the old fashioned way, but why would I want to?
no, I promise I am not being paid to tell you any of this!

Ok...the very first thing you need to do is join tripod or fortune city.  To use my instructions, only these two will work!
Fortune city gives you 20 megs of free space!  All for the "price" of a banner ad that they insert at the top of each page!  A lot of people complain about these, but they are giving you something you can pay 10 or 20 dollars for elsewhere!  They have to get their money some way!  The only disadvantage with Fortune City is the extremely long web addresses, but I bookmark all my favorite pages anyway, so who cares?  And if you do there are tons of free places to go and get a subdomain name like rename.net, and all you have to do is insert a small button on your page (which I will explain how to do!) and viola!  You are ready to go!
Tripod gives you 11 megs of free space with a choice of pop-up adds or banner adds embedded in your pages.  I love tripod, they have been very good to me.  I have been with them ever since I first logged on to the internet.  With tripod you get a short web-address anyway, no need to use rename. Your user name is part of your web-address, like my user name is kimonk, so my web-address is http://kimonk.tripod.com which is pretty short compared to some of them! (both tripod and fortune city are cgi enabled, and support the use of javascript etc. (not bad for a free site, partnered with free software!)
Then download Trellix (fortune city version) or Trellix (tripod version) It's FREE! I downloaded the tripod version first, then the fortune city version, which installed over the tripod version and kind of merged them together, since I have pages at both places.  When you install Trellix, you should register it (free) follow the instructions online.
Trellix is a wonderful free SITE building tool, not just a page editor.  It has a wizard to help you decide on the layout, or choose a layout that is pre-designed!  There is an online tutorial, FAQ, and a knowledge base for help, as well as a pretty good help feature built in.  They have a chat room where you can go and get help, and it is open pretty late! I very seldom check the box for any newsletters, but I enjoy Trellix newsletters, they have lots of neat tips and links to other pages built by Trellix users. The people from Trellix actually called me after I registered my copy to ask how I liked it, and have called back to make sure I was not having problems!  This is a FREE product!  They offer a pay version, but the only difference is, with the pay version you can put your site anywhere, the free one is limited to tripod or fortune city.  They do not try to get you to upgrade either!  AND you don't have to use their logo...I use it because I want you to know how I made such a great site! (and I want you to have one too!) (I am now using the paid version because I wanted to move to Rootsweb and have unlimited webspace!)
The learning curve for Trellix is quite easy.  You may think "I know nothing about building web-pages" but in my opinion this would actually be an advantage, because you come into it with a clean slate, no pre-conceived notions of how it will work. (and you won't be thinking "Oh no, not another new wonderful tool for me to learn to use!")
NOW you are ready to begin.  You don't have to, but I would set aside an afternoon, and commit myself to learning all the neat little things you can do with Trellix.  Use the tutorial, then and only then, begin to play! I learned to use it without the tutorial, then went and checked it out, and thought "Duh! I should have did this to start with!" It wasn't that hard without it, but it would have been easier with it.
After you have finished with the tutorial, go here for links and tips from me, based on my experience with     Trellix. (the big expert, LOL)
