M*n*s Newsletter
Issue #2 03/13/2000
WOW! We are growing by leaps and bounds here! I have actually had two people to subscribe to the newsletter! I am sending one to everyone again, but after this, only the people who subscribed will get one. I don't want to send this to anyone who doesn't want to get it. Also, tell me whether you want the regular text version, or the html version of the newsletter. On to the news now! (Gerry and My dad and Phyllis and Beverly get it whether they want it or not!!) I have updated and moved things around since the last newsletter so let me clue you all in to the changes. I have moved the Monkee Tree to Rootsweb, and consolidated it into what I am calling "The M*n*s Surname Network" I hope to have contributors who sign up for their own little spot in the network! Let me explain how this would work. You send me any information you have along with pictures, scans of newspaper clippings, stories, anything you want to show everyone....And I will turn it into a handy dandy Web-page! Then, I will add you to the list of researchers, along with a link to your spot in the network, and viola! We can build an empire of M*n*s'!! That way, you don't have to worry about learning how to build a web-page (unless you just want to) and you can have your presense on the WWW! Myfamily.com is great, but there is no exposure to people outside of that site. People have to find us, and this will help them do that. The layout of "The M*n*s Surname Network" will look like this
The URL for The Monkee Tree is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kimonk/oldwill The URL for the M*n*s Database is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kimonk/muncas/Clanasof03022000.web/index0.htm I would like for everyone to visit, even if you have been before. The job of the SRC is to guide you to different resources on the web that pertain to our surname. I must say, there isn't a lot that is directly related, so I am doing my best to make a presense for us on the web. If anyone wants to help with anything, I certainly won't turn you down! Mystery!! Welcome Janice Spinks to the family, and let's try to solve her mystery! Here is the story as she posted it in my guest book... Name: Janice Spinks Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Georgia Time: 2000-03-08 15:09:12 Comments: I have been searching for Monkus family for about three years now.Received info from some people that said Monkus was originally Mankus from Lithuania. But have not been able to connect my family. My great grandfather's name was said to be Giddard, so I believe it could just as easily have been Giddeon. He married my great grandmother in North Carolina. My grandfather was Charlie Edgar Monkus b.1885 and he had a brother named William b.1886. Giddard left his family one day, while his two sons was very small, and never returned. Noone knows what became of him. Some of the family thought he might have had another family somewhere else, since he was with my great grandmother for only a couple of years before disappearing. When I saw you have a Gideon in your file born abt. 1849, I thought this might possibly be Giddard. If you have any other info on this Gideon, please let me know. My mother was Opal Monkus born in Bryson City, NC. Alright everyone, let's see if we can help Janice! Thanks for reading!!! |
