George Tyler Wilson (my GGgrandfather, maternal by way of Andrew J. Moncus wife Alice L.Wilson)
In 1861 He walked from Sikesville to Auburn to enlist in CSA-14th Alabama Volunteers Regt. Infantry Co. "K", wounded in battle of Williamsburg, Va. on 5 May 1862, was also wounded in battle of Gettysburg; was captured in July 1864 and imprisoned in Elmira, NY, resigned prison & remained behind lines until surrender. In 1877-1888 Alabama State Gazetteer and Business Directory for Randolph County, G.T. Wilson of Almond (Population 50 with tri-weekly mail delivery) was shown as a wagon maker. Gideon Bell Moncus enlisted for the Civil War fromTalladega Co., Alabama on 6 Sept 1861 and listed his age at that time as 38.. A muster roll of the same date at Camp Johnston lists him as Gideon Bell Mouncus, Private. Private Moncus served with Company I, 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment. From George Ryan Munkus: Relatives in Randolph Co., AL say that at least one of the original brothers-Gideon Bell "Gid" Moncus went west with a herd of horses. His family settled somewhere in the southwest, believed to be Tucumcari, NM. From May Moncus Jones: Gideon was chopping wood in his own yard when he was shot by some snipers.  At this time Cinderella was an infant, so the shooting occurred probably between 1868-1870.  Sophronia was a widow in the 1870 census.  His son Benjamin went by train to Texas when he was about 17 (1877-78).  Sophronia followed next with her family by wagon.  A little later, Gideon's oldest son William followed with his wife and three small children.
Death: BET 1865 AND 18? (this was in my notes this way.)
