WILLIAM OLIVER VAN HORN

WILLIAM OLIVER VAN HORN, son of John C. Van Horne, was born on January 22, 1844 in Butler County Ohio, and died on February 12, 1918 in a hospital in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri.

William Oliver Van Horn married Susan Elizabeth McVey, daughter of Benjamin McVey and Catherine Smith, on March 4, 1873, in New Market, Platte County, Missouri.

Children of William Oliver Van Horn and Susan Elizabeth McVey were:

1. Oliver Van Horn, b. November 19, 1873, d. September 1874

2. Carra Beatrice Van Horn, b. February 19, 1878, d. September 5, 1943

3. Katherine A. Van Horn, b. March 23, 1882, d. February 1, 1915

4. John Calvin Van Horn, b. Octobe 1886, d. May 1887

5. Winona Lee Van Horn, b. May 22, 1889, d. March 1, 1955

OBITUARY --

VAN HORN

W. O. Van Horn, who lived at the Bellemont Cemetery where he has been sexton for many years, died Feb. 12, 1918, of lockage of the bowels. He was taken to a St. Joseph hospital Tuesday evening where he died shortly afterwards. Mr. Van Horn was a veteran soldier, having served in the Civil War in the Nathan Price Post, No. 273, Co. I, Kansas Cavalry. He was about 73 years of age. He is survived by his wife, one adopted son, Paul McBride, who is with the army, two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Cunningham, who is at the Mayo Brothers hospital at Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Winona Price, of St. Joseph, and by five brothers: C. H. Van Horn, of Atchison, Geo. Van Horn, of Osawatomie, Ks., Joseph and Jackson Van Horn of Kansas City, and John Van Horn, probably of Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be at the M. E. church this afternoon. Interment at the Bellemont Cemetery.

On June 24, 1864, Jackson Hendrix was made William Oliver Van Horn's guardian.

William Oliver Van Horn is listed on the 1860 Iowa Census.

Note: While this cemetery is spelled "Belmont" and the one in my personal records is spelled "Bellemont," I feel this could be the same cemetery where William O. Van Horn was sexton, and lived with his wife, Susan McVey-Van Horn.
