Jim King's Background

James Marion King was born 18 Apr 1829 in Buncombe County NC.  The King family Bible shows his baptism on 24 Feb 1850 and lists his parents as John King and Elizabeth B Clark.

Again using the King family Bible as a source for dates, John King was born 5 Feb 1801 in Lincoln County NC.  Elizabeth B Clark was born 24 Jul 1803 in Greenville County SC.  Records in the family Bible indicate that John and Elizabeth were married 28 Feb 1821.  However, marriage bond 65707 was issued in Haywood County NC 15 Feb 1822 for the marriage of John King to Elizabeth Clark, with Henry Clark as Bondsman.  In this document, Elizabeth is referred to as "daughter of George Clark."

The family Bible records indicate that John and Elizabeth King had thirteen children.  Some of the dates may be inaccurate, but this is the way the listings appear:

11. Richard Solomon King born 28 Mar 1840, died 16 Nov 1841
12. Andrew W or U King born 22 Mar 1842
13. Sintha Margrete King born 5 Sep 1844

John and Elizabeth were living in Buncombe County NC in 1830 [census page 265] and in 1840 [page 189 northern TWP].  In 1850 they were in Cherokee County NC, Murphy Township [Record 444638, page 55].  John and Elizabeth were in the same place in 1860, when John was listed as a 59-year-old farmer with $1200 real estate value and $240 personal property value.  Nothing about their later lives or their deaths or their burial places is known.
