Swedish Kinman Genealogy
These Kinman's have their roots in Sweden. Kinman is not the usual name associated with Scandinavian names. Most Swedish names ended in "son". If your father's first name was Nils your last name became Nilsson if male and Nilsdotter if female. There were many Ole, Nils, Johans in Sweden so many names were the same. My Great Grandfather was in the Swedish Army and the army because of so many similar and same names sometimes assigned a new last name to a soldier. Just how these names were assigned I do not know. I have an idea the name Kinman is most likely from England and the name derived from Kin's men, or Kin man.
The maternal side on my Dad's side was the Almquist family. My cousin Jim E. Almquist has done a wonderful job in sharing that information, click on My Almquist Family below.
There is a genealogy program that is very good and one I use. It's a free download. Take a look at their web site for more information.
