Joseph married Emma Magdalena OZIAS Lena 15 May 1881 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. About 1933 George DUMOND remarried. His address at the time of Emma's death (1931) was 92130, San Diego, California.
He was named Joseph Stanislas when he was born. Later when he married in the US he went by Stanislas. Still later and the rest of his life he went by George. He was a horse trader. His second wife in CA was Lena. He was 75 when Emma died and it was after that he remarried. He and Emma were both French. He lived in Minnesota, Dakota, Los Angelas. His sister was Pamela DUMONT. She married a frenchman named Gangan.(Pronounced "Gone uh." There are many Gangans and Dumonds in the U.S., decendents of the early French families in Canada. In 1913 or 14 George filed a homestead somewhere near Malta, Montana or Wolf Point. Aunt Emma would not leave Grand Forks to go with him due to ill health perhaps and school for the children. Uncle George Dumond loved his children and wife. He was a kind man - and too generous with his money when he had some. His problem was wanderlust and not writing home. Aunt Emma practically raised the family by herself, always praying for him. Finally, at 5o years of age his doctor told him if he didn't stop drinking he would not live a year. He stopped!!!! as of that day and was a different person. Stopped his wandering (made a good living as long as the horses had their day.) and was good to his faithful wife Emma. I remember when I stayed at their home in Grand Forks. Uncle George. always was up early in the morning, had a fire going in the cook stove and always swept the kitchen floor before any of the family came down stairs.
| ||||
George Dumonts were married over 50 years celebrating their 50th in Losa Angelas. They lived for a time on a farm in Minnesota, later moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. About 1929 they moved to LA after spending a winter in Seattle. George knew more about horses than any one I ever knew. He took broken down, sore footed dray horses and in weeks would have a stylish high spirited animals. He doctored them, fixed their teeth, etc. Too bad he couldn't have been a vet. He drove many a hard bargain when it came to trading. For horse trading was his life. I lost contact with the family after Aunt Emma died in 1933 and George remarried.

151 | F | Emma Magdalena OZIAS Lena was the daughter of Louis OZIOS and Josephine BOISSEAU 15 May 1881 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Emma was born 29 November 1864 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She was christened 26 March 1865. She died 8 November 1931 in Los Angeles, California.
According to Mary Louis Miles: Aunt Emma Lena Ozios was a good woman and was born about 1865. Loved by her children and held in high esteem by her neighbors, friends and business people of Grand Forks. A devout Catholic, I never heard an unkind word of anyone from her nor a harsh word to any of her children. One could not be around her without feeling her kindness and goodness. The Jewish people of the neighborhood called her first to come and sit with them when they were sick or in an accident and the doctor second. They seemed to think that they couldn't make it unless Mrs. Dumont held their hand. She went out to work at an early age (12) perhaps until she married George DUMOND in 1882. To them were born 12-13 sons and daughters. On the1880 census she is 15 and working as a servant doing housework in a King family in Chippewa Falls. Joseph King was a liquor salesman. MLM: Emma Lena Ozios was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin about 1865 (in March if I remember correctly), eldest of 10 children of Louis and Josephine Osios, granddaughterof Joseph ROUSSEAU (who died when Josephine was a child somewhere in Michigan) and if she was baptized in the same church as my mother, Mary Ellen OZIOS POPPE it would be recorded in the Notre Dame Church Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. May have been born March 4-6, 1865. She was born 2 weeks after her folks landed in US coming from perhaps Normandy France. She went to work at about the age of 12. She had a brother with 3 children who lived in Fresno, California. Mom (Laura) looked like her. She lived in Lulu's house after Lulu willed it to her in Los Angeles. Died there. She didn't like Los Angeles. She lived to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary about 1931 in Los Angeles She was tall, slim, dark, but after her kids she was fat. She met her husband around Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

When she died her home had been willed to her mother, Aunt Emma who went to Los Angeles to live in the home Lulu had provided for her. Lulu had no children. company.

281 | M | Peter HOFFMAN was born 3 January 1881 in St. Joseph, Pierz, Minnesota. He was christened 23 January 1881 in St. Joseph, Pierz, Minnesota. He died 10 May 1940 in Seattle, Washington, Calvary Cemetery. He was buried in Calvary.
He may have been raised German-Lutheran, although I have received information from Catholic churches on his father. He died the day after Mother's day at Mom's house. He was a locomotive engineer, a Milwaukee Switch engineer. With the inheritance he left Mom, she bought the blue rug and dining room set. He was hit and hurt by a car November 1915 in Lewistown, MT. I have his death certificate. In 1907 he was in Grand Forks, North Dakota, 1909 he was in Great Falls, Montana in the 1909 Grand Forks Directory as a fireman fror Great .Northern . Railway, bds 206 S. 4th.By November 1915 in Lewistown where he was hit and hurt by a car November 1915. The newspaper clipping states that at 4:00 pm a Ford Car, driven by a Miss Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bean, swept around in a half circle at the Empire bank corner intersection of Main street and Fourth avenue and caught Mr. Hoffman, who was chatting with a friend, carrying him swiftly against the brick wall of the building and crushing him terribly.... Mr. Hoffman was totally unaware of his danger, his back being to the car, until the swiftly moving auto struck him, the guard bending him over. Instantly, he was carried in front of the car as it struck the iron post supporting the iron railing around the entrance of the Empire barber shop. This did not seem to check the car at all, the post being snapped off while the auto jumped forward a couple of feet until it struck the wall of the building. . . . A Mr. Jeff Sherman and others immediately too the injured man out. Hoffman was unconscious, bleeding from numerous cuts and was quickly carried upstairs to the office of Dr. Attix, who found a facture of the knee, with several bad cuts about the head and body. The pressure exerted when the car struck the building came largely upon the chest, and this Hoffman withstood in a rather remarkable way, his structure evidently being a powerful one, one who took the first steam or diesel train over the Rocky Mountains. If that was so he must have done is before 1915 as that is when he was hit by a car and lost his leg. I have never been able to verify this story.
According to Aunt Arleine, he did not have a middle name, but the 1909 directory shows him to be John H Hoffman
