A brief summary of John Thomas Kneen and Family from the Isle of Man, to Illinois, to Iowa.
The following information was copied from the Hartley Herald (Iowa) where this Kneen family was living. The family was living in the town of Hartley at the time. They emigrated from the Isle of Man in 1868 and lived in Galva Illinois and Kempton, Illinois until 1883 when they moved to Hartley. Two of the daughters of the family married while in Galva, their names were Mrs. Thomas Kelly and Mrs. (Sara, or Sadie) Rufus McKane. John Kneen was a town Marshall in 1895-6 and seemed to be fairly prosperous, they owned land in South Dakota and in O'Brien County also.
Sara Kneen married Charles Smith in 1891 and lived near Mound City, South Dakota (Cambell County) when she died. Her obituary does not mention any children. William Kneen also lived for a time in Cambell County S.D., married Edna margaret Gosling, and later moved back to Hartley.
Anna Kneen was a teacher in Omega township at the Hopfe school in 1899.
