Georg Christian Karl Köchy and family emigrated to Missouri from the village of Schlewecke, located in the former Grand Duchy of Brunswick. They arrived in New Orleans in November, 1851 and cleared customs in January, 1852.  The family immediately set out for Cape Girardeau, Missouri where Georg, who was known as Christian, bought their first parcel of land.  The vessel that brought them to America was the sailing ship S.S. Ernestine. The last name was spelled  Köchig on the passenger manifest and is spelled Koechig today by most of his American descendants.

U.S.S. Daniel D.E. 335

Orange, Texas

Chesapeake Bay

Here's the source of stories such as the one where all of the depth charges were dumped in the water at one time, or the one about the sailor who was thrown into the water to teach him to swim.  Buford and his mates aboard DE 335, the 'Daniel', crossed the Atlantic fourteen times.  During this time, it was responsible for at least one Nazi submarine never surfacing again, and for numerous other ships escorted to safety.
