The History of the Konrath and Komp families

The Komp and Konrath Families

from Treis an der Mosel

to Wisconsin, Arkansas, Nebraska and Oregon

Villages on The Mosel River

This Genealogy was started by my mother, Helen Theresa Konrath when she wrote "The Struggle for a Home" in 1923 while a student at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, Nebraska. My mother also kept a book where she recorded all the family information. This site is dedicated to her and my family.

The Struggle For A Home

Helen Theresa Konrath Reuter

After the death of my mother, we found a box containing pictures, newspaper articles, letters, funeral prayer cards and other items relating to her family. I thank mom for saving all those memories for us to share.

The information on my ancestors starts in the 16th Century in Germany and Austria. Some 300 years later, Elisabeth Komp Konrath and her brother, Joseph Peter Komp left Treis in the spring of 1852 and arrived in New York in May. Elisabeth was a widow with seven children; Joseph and his wife, Katharina Trester, came with five or six children. They arrived in Wisconsin and settled in the areas of Hubertus and Slinger in Washington Co. They were Catholic.

I wish to thank all my cousins and others who have assisted me, shared information, and offered encouragement and support in searching for my ancestors and creating this web site. A special thank you to my wonderful husband, Rick who has driven me across the United States and Europe; searched graveyards, cranked microfilms and never complained about the amount of time I have devoted to this project.
