The Descendants of Joannes Jacob STURM

Generation One

1. JOANNES JACOB STURM was born between 1630 and 1650. He was the tax collector for the Count of Mettenich in Koblenz. Information from Herr Munch in personal interview in Treis in April of 1997. He married Euhalia SCHUH. and died on 5 February 1696 in Treis. EUHALIA was born between 1630 and 1650. Her maiden name was provided by Herr Munch. She died on 25 November 1710 in Treis.


This house in Kobern was built in 1320.

2. CATHARINA GERTRUDE STURM was born between 1668 and 1674. Catharina was a Godmother on May 8, 1694 for Catharina Gertrud Schaben, the daughter of Joannes Schaben and her sister, Anna Christina Sturm. She was a Godmother on March 29, 1699 for Joannes Preys (Preus), the son of Joannes Preus and Sybillia Seithen. (Sybillia was her sister-in-law.) She was a Godmother on Sept. 22, 1707 for Peter Simonis, the son of Joannes Simonis and Catharina Schelbartz. She was a Godmother on March 20, 1720 for Joannes Preys, the son of Joannes Preus and Maria Luzia Castor. She was a Godmother on Nov. 19, 1725 for Catharina Gertrude Schmitz, the daughter of Wilhelm Agidius Schmitz and Johanna Sybillia Seithen. She married Joannes Bartholmew SEITHEN, son of Joannes Heinrich SEITHEN and Christina SCHELBARTZ, on 18 June 1697 in St. Johannes, Treis.

JOANNES BARTHOLMEW SEITHEN was born before 1678. He was a citizen of Seabing. He married Catharina MAGI, daughter of Joannes MAGI and Anna Margaret HENRICH, on 28 April 1711 in St. Johannes. He was a Godfather for Catharina, daughter of Jacob Goebels and Maria Margaretha Beurens. He was a schoffe on 24 March 1731 in St. Johannes. He died on 3 April 1744 in Treis. Note: Elisabeth Seithen, daughter of Joannes and Agnes, was born in Liegh, and Baptized on the 27th of July, 1700. Her Godparents were Elisabeth (?) of Beuren, and Servatius (?). of Leigh.

The five known children of Catharina Gertrude STURM and Joannes Bartholmew SEITHEN all born in Treis, were:

3. ANNA CHRISTINA STURM Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 11 February 1670 in St. Johannes. She married Joannes SCHABEN in 1694. She died on 15 June 1702 in Treis at age 32. Her death record showed that she was the mother of four children when she died. JOANNES SCHABEN was born between 1650 and 1670 in Cochem. Matthias Joseph Schaben of Cochem was probably his brother. He died circa 1724.

The three known children of Anna Christina STURM and Joannes SCHABEN all born in Treis, were:

4. JOANNES JACOB STURM ( Joannes Jacob ) was born on 7 April 1671 in Kobern, Rhineland. He was a Gerber from 1695-1709. A Counsil, Schoffe u. Synodale 1714-1747. These are probable parents. He may also have had a brother, Philip Sturm. There are enough gaps in the births of Joannes and Euhalia's children for Philip to fit into the family. He married Anna Barbara Valwig, daughter of Cuno Valwig and Anna Maria, in 1695 in St. Johannes. He married Appolonia KAUFMANN, daughter of Anton KAUFMANN and Gertrude FUCHS, on 28 December 1702 in St. Johannes; "in der Kirche begraben nahe dem Altar "Aller Heiligen.". He married Catharina NIDECKEN on 27 November 1714 in St. Johannes. He died on 1 October 1747 in Treis at age 76. He was a Godfather for Anna Barbara Dietsch, daughter of Michael Dietsch and Katharina Valwig on 5 June 1715 in Treis. ANNA BARBARA VALWIG was baptized on 29 October 1673 in St. Johannes. She was a Godmother for Barthomew Dietsch, son of Michael Dietsch and Katharina Valwig on 9 October 1701 in Treis. She died on 25 September 1702 in Treis at age 28.

The three known children of Joannes Jacob STURM and Anna Barbara Valwig were:

APPOLONIA KAUFMANN was baptized on 26 August 1684 in Muden. Her Godparents were Michael Fuchs of Muden, and Apollonia Grein of Sabershausen. Muden Family Book, P. 87. Apollonia was a Godmother on July 29, 1703 for Nicolaus Pillig, the son of Matthias Pillig and Katharina Bertgens. She was a Godmother on Jan. 13, 1712 for Joannes Adolph Illerich, the son of Joannes Emmerich Illerich and Anna Francisca Kaufmann. She was a Godmother for Joannes Adolph Illerich, son of Joannes Illerich and Maria Christophori on 13 January 1712 in St. Johannes. She died on 4 September 1714 in Treis at age 30. She died from the childbirth of the twins.

The six known children of Joannes Jacob STURM and Appolonia KAUFMANN were:

CATHARINA NIDECKEN was baptized on 5 April 1671 in St. Johannes. She was a Godmother for Philipp Sturm, son of Joannes Philipp Sturm and Katharina Arens. She died on 22 September 1748 in Treis at age 77. There were no known children of Joannes Jacob STURM and Catharina NIDECKEN.


5. ANNA ELISABETHA STURM ( Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 16 February 1675 in St. Johannes. She married Anton KAUFMANN, son of Anton KAUFMANN and Gertrude FUCHS, on 11 May 1700 in St. Johannes. She died on 14 June 1718 in Treis at age 43.
ANTON KAUFMANN was baptized on 1 March 1693 in Muden, and was a baker. He married Catharina MUNTNICH, daughter of Joannes Michael MUNTNICH and Maria Anna SIMONIS, on 3 November 1721 in St. Johannes. He died on 12 April 1756 in Treis at age 63.

The four known children of Anna Elisabetha STURM and Anton KAUFMANN were:

8. FRANCISCUS GEORGE STURM ( Joannes Jacob was born between 1688 and 1691 in Neunheim. He was a council member in 1718 and a wine barrel maker. On June 9, 1709, Franciscus was a Godfather for Fransciscus George Kreus, son of Joannes Jacob Kreus and Agnes (?). He was a Godfather on Oct. 25, 1713 for Franciscus George Seithen, the son of Joannes Bartholmew Seithen and Catharina Magi. He married Anna Maria KAUFMANN, daughter of Matthias KAUFMANN and Kathatharia FUCHS, on 7 February 1708 in Munden. He died on 19 February 1744 in Treis. ANNA MARIA KAUFMANN was born circa 1690 in Muden. She died on 10 November 1750 in Treis.

9. JOHANNA SYBILLIA SEITHEN ( Catharina Gertrude STURM , Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 28 September 1698 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Sybilla Seithens, wife of Joannes Preus, and Joannes Bartholomus Deutsch. She married Wilhelm Agidius SCHMITZ, son of Eberhard SCHMITZ and Maria ESCH, on 6 February 1725 in St. Johannes. She died on 26 May 1767 in Treis at age 68. WILHELM AGIDIUS SCHMITZ was baptized on 11 August 1699 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Wilhelm Rink of Brieden, and Anna Maria Esch, widow fur sie Barbara Sturm, nata Valwig. He died on 8 March 1785 in Treis at age 85.

The four known children of Johanna Sybillia SEITHEN and Wilhelm Agidius SCHMITZ were:

ANNA ELISABETHA SCHABEN ( Anna Christina STURM Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 12 December 1700 in St. Johannes, Treis. Her Godparents were Joannes Groef, Judocus, Hofman in Grinshausen fur Joannes Kisdelbach, metzger (butcher) in Munstermaisfeld, and Anna Elisabeth Sturms, the wife of Anton Kaufmann of Muden. She married Nicolaus Trester Jr., son of Nicolaus TRESTER and Anna Maria Beuren, on 24 February 1725 in St. Johannes. They received a dispensation Episcopi. She died on 22 May 1737 in Treis at age 36.

NICOLAUS TRESTER Jr. was baptized on 6 October 1701 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Nicolaus Tresser, adolesant, and Catharina Piquart, wife of Petrus Valwig. Nicolaus was a Godfather on Jan. 15, 1722 for Maria Catharina Trester, the daughter of Christian Trester and Anna Maria Comes. He married Katharina MUELLER, daughter of Anton MUELLER and Barbara LAUS, in 1739. They received a dispensation Episcopi.

The three known children of Anna Elisabetha SCHABEN and Nicolaus Trester Jr. all born in Treis were:

20. ANNA MARIA FRANCISCA STURM ( Joannes Jacob, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 13 January 1704 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Matthias Pullich and Anna Maria Francisca Kauffmans, wife of Joannes Valentin of Muden. On Dec. 24, 1723, Anna was a Godmother for Anna Franziska Kaufmann, daughter of Pantaleon Kauffmann in Muden. On Oct. 19, 1732 she was a Godmother for Anna Francisca Sturm, the daughter of Joannes Philipp Sturm and Catharina Arens. (Joannes was her brother.) On Aug. 31, 1740, she was a Godmother for Anton Pulcher, the son of Joannes Anton Pulcher and Maria Margaretha Arens. She married Herman Anton Conrath, son of Anton Herman CONRATH and Amalia NINGEL, on 29 October 1724 in St. Johannes. She died on 4 May 1784 in Treis at age 80. HERMAN ANTON CONRATH was baptized on 18 June 1693 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Herman Conrath and Barbara Laubach. He was also known as Herman Conrath. He was a Godfather on Dec. 26, 1730 for Catharina Barbara Petri, the daughter of Peter Petri and Catharina Sturm. He died on 27 May 1756 in Treis at age 62.

The 12 known children of Anna Maria Francisca STURM and Herman Anton Conrath all born in Treis were:

21. CATHARINA STURM (Joannes Jacob, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 26 January 1706 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Laurentius Dormeyer and Catharina Valvigs. She married Peter PETRI, son of Gottfried PETRI and Magdalena PICKART, before 1730. She died on 9 February 1781 in Treis at age 75. PETER PETRI was baptized on 14 June 1702 in Treis. His Godparents were Peter Valwig and Margaretha, wife of Joannes Magi. He died on 23 March 1755 in Treis at age 52.

23. JOANNES PHILIPP STURM (Joannes Jacob, Joannes Jacob) was born on 30 March 1709 in Treis, Cochem, Rhineland. He was baptized on 30 March 1709 in St. Johannes, Treis. His Godparents were Philipp Sturm of Cobern and Gertrude, wife of Anton Kaufmann of Muden. He was a justitiarius and a schoffe. He married Anna Maria PETRI, daughter of Gottfried PETRI and Magdalena PICKART, circa 1731. He married Catharina ARENS, daughter of Andreas ARENS and Anna Maria CASTOR, before 1734. He married Maria Anna Josephina GORRES on 29 January 1743 in St. Johannes. He died on 2 January 1751 in Treis at age 41.

ANNA MARIA PETRI was baptized on 8 April 1704 in Treis. Her Godparents were Anna Maria, widow of Cuno Valwig, and Peter Arens, sutor. She died on 16 October 1732 in Treis at age 28. There were no known children of Joannes Philipp STURM and Anna Maria PETRI.

CATHARINA ARENS was baptized on 23 May 1712 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Carl Traben and Katharina Lies, wife of Joannes Adolph Castor, prator. Catharina was a Godmother on April 5, 1726 for Catharina Senger, the daughter of Joannes Matthias Senger and Anna Maria Fritz. She was a Godmother for Catharina Kern, the daughter of Daniel Kern/Kenn and Antonetta Rausch. She was a Godmother on March 8, 1737 for Peter Henrich Petri, the son of Peter Petri and Catharina Sturm. She died on 4 September 1742 in Treis at age 30.

MARIA ANNA JOSEPHINA GORRES was born before 1723 in Munden, Rhineland. She married Joannes Wilhelm RAUEISER on 21 September 1751 in Treis. She died on 14 June 1761 in Treis.

26. ANNA MARIA KAUFMANN (Anna Elisabetha STURM, Joannes Jacob) was born between 1701 and 1711. She married Joannes Heinrich KERN circa 1733. She died on 16 January 1773 in Treis. JOANNES HEINRICH KERN was born before 1715. The name is recorded as Kern, Herren, Kirren, Kehn, and Kehren. His parents were not shown. He was a maurer (stone mason) in 1743. He died on 13 October 1753 in Treis.

The six known children of Anna Maria KAUFMANN and Joannes Heinrich KERN were:

28. MARIA MARGARETHA KAUFMANN (Anna Elisabetha STURM, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 9 July 1713 in St. Johannes, Treis. Her Godparents were Peter Kaufmann, adolesant and Maria Margaretha, daughter of Joannes Fuchs. She married Carl Anton PUTZ before 1743. She died on 6 March 1773 in Treis at age 59. CARL ANTON PUTZ was born before 1713. He died on 18 January 1759 in Treis. NOTE: Possible source for this family. A Nicolaus Putz was born 9 April 1668 in Brenn. He married Catharina and had the following children: Wilhelm on 9 June 1669. Christina, 3 December 1671. Theodore, 12 August 1674. Franz Nicolaus, 14 October 1677. Joannes Ernst, 27 July 1681, and Cathe.

The five known children of Maria Margaretha KAUFMANN and Carl Anton PUTZ all born in Treis, were:

33. MARIA GERTRUDE STURM (Franciscus George, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 5 September 1715 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Gertrudis Kauffman, wife of Matthias of Mueden, and Joannes Bartholomus Seithen. She married Joannes Adolph WAHL, son of Caspar WAHL, before 1735. She died before 1788. JOANNES ADOLPH WAHL was born between 1705 and 1711. His Godparents were Joannes Adolph Deutsch and Catharina Pickart, wife of Peter Valwig. He was a Godfather on April 8, 1731 for Joannes Adolph Graef, the son of Anton Graef and Maria Margaretha Wahl. He died on 23 December 1788 in Treis. His death record shows he was a widower and an old man.

The 12 known children of Maria Gertrude STURM and Joannes Adolph WAHL were:

34. CATHARINA STURM (Franciscus George, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 19 March 1718 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Joannes Plenz of Muden, and Catharina, wife of Matthias Kaufmann of Muden. She died on 22 December 1761 in Treis at age 43.

37. PETER STURM (Franciscus George, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 9 September 1725 in St. Johannes, Treis. His Godparents were Petrus Kaufmann of Muden, and Maria Margaretha, wife of Joannes Jacobus Sturm. Peter was a Godfather on May 25, 1785 for Peter Joseph Raueiser, the son of Philipp Jacob Raueiser, and his sister, Anna Catharina Sturm. He married Catharina BLEIS on 15 May 1758 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Matthias Sturm, Antonio Muentenich, Guiliemo Schmitz and Petro Boos. He died on 14 March 1805 in Treis at age 79. CATHARINA BLEIS was born before 1740. She died on 18 March 1789 in Treis.

The six known children of Peter STURM and Catharina BLEIS were:

38. CATHARINA STURM (Franciscus George, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 17 October 1728 in St. Johannes. She was a twin. Her Godparents were Catharina, wife of Joannes Dresden, and Agidus Schmitz. She married Joannes Melchior NEEF on 21 May 1758 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Matthias Sturm and Jacob Muentenich. She died on 22 December 1761 in Treis at age 33. She died a few months after the birth of her son Joannes.

JOANNES MELCHIOR NEEF was born between 1730 and 1736. He married Apollonia CASTOR, daughter of Carl CASTOR and Apollonia CASTOR, on 23 February 1762 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Joannes Castor and Franz Castor. He married Anna Catharina GROEFF, daughter of Anton GROEFF and Maria Margaret WAHL on 18 June 1764 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Matthias Sturm and Jacob Muentenich.

The only known child of Catharina STURM and Joannes Melchior NEEF was:

39. ANNA MARIA STURM (Franciscus George, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 17 October 1728 in St. Johannes, Treis. She was a twin. Her Godparents were Joannes Lies of Muden, and Anna Maria, wife of Joannes Plentz of Muden. She married Anton KESSELER on 24 January 1758 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Franz Sturm and Gulio Schmitz. She died on 22 November 1800 in Treis at age 72. ANTON KESSELER was born before 1728 in Oberfell, Cochem, Rhineland. Note: Oberfell is a small historic village on the Mosel River near Koblenz. He died on 4 May 1797 in Treis.

40. CATHARINA GERTRUDE SCHMITZ (Johanna Sybillia SEITHEN, Catharina Gertrude STURM, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 19 November 1725 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Catharina Gertrud, wife of Joannes Bartholomus Seithen, and Joannes Schmitz. She married Joannes Wilhelm PUTZ, son of Joannes Theodore PUTZ and Maria Katharina KLEIN, on 3 February 1749 in St. Johannes. JOANNES WILHELM PUTZ was baptized on 27 October 1724 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Joannes Wilhelmus Longh and Agnes, wife of Eberhard Claus. He died on 26 February 1775 in Treis at age 50.

The nine known children of Catharina Gertrude SCHMITZ and Joannes Wilhelm PUTZ were:

47. JOANNES CONRATH (Anna Maria Francisca STURM, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 9 September 1725 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Joannes Arens, Kanonikus and Kantor in Karden, and Katharina Klein, wife of Joannes Jacob Sturms. He married Anna Elisabetha STEFFES, daughter of Joannes STEFFES and Anna Maria CASTOR, on 10 September 1748 in St. Johannes. He died on 5 December 1798 in Treis at age 73. ANNA ELISABETHA STEFFES was baptized on 8 January 1724 in St. Johannes, Treis. She was a twin. Her Godparents were Henri Castor and Elisabeth, wife of Anton Castor. Anna was a Godmother on April 6, 1780 for Anna Elisabetha Conrath, the daughter of Herman Conrath and Maria Margaretha Steffes. She married Joannes Balthasar DEUTSCH, son of Joannes Adolph DEUTSCH and Maria Margaret FUCHS, on 9 November 1745 in St. Johannes, Treis, the in Treis. She died on 19 April 1783 in Treis at age 59.

50. PHILIPP JACOB CONRATH (Anna Maria Francisca STURM, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 18 March 1731 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Philip Jacob Sturm, and Anna Margaret Schmit, a virgin from Alterich. He married Anna Maria Katharina FUCHS on 6 May 1760 in Treis. He died on 5 February 1797 in Treis at age 65. He was a Godfather for Philipp Jacob Conrad, son of Anton Conrad and Maria Katherina Putz on 23 February 1783 in Treis. ANNA MARIA KATHARINA FUCHS was born circa 1735. She may have been the daughter of Joannes Fuchs and Katharina Castor who were married on February 23, 1725. She died on 19 April 1807 in Treis.

54. ANNA MARIA CONRATH (Anna Maria Francisca STURM, Joannes Jacob , Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 20 June 1739 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Anna Maria, daughter of Andreas Arens, Synod, and Peter, son of Matthias Boos, schoffe. She married Nicolaus LAUS, son of Joannes Anton LAUS and Anna Catharina EMSBACH, on 7 February 1763 in Treis. The witnesses were Matthias Laus and Franz Conrath. She died on 3 April 1814 in Treis at age 74. NICOLAUS LAUS was baptized on 18 September 1738 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Nicolaus Seibolt and Anna Maria, daughter of Joise Pleser (Bleser). He died on 13 January 1815 in Treis at age 76.

The nine known children of Anna Maria CONRATH and Nicolaus LAUS were:

55. FRANCISCUS CONRATH (Anna Maria Francisca STURM, Joannes Jacob ) was baptized on 5 October 1741 in St. Johannes, Tries. His Godparents were Francis Traben and Anna Maria Preus. Franciscus was a Godfather on Oct. 5, 1770 for Franciscus Castor, the son of Joannes Castor and Maria Margaretha Prins. He was a Godfather on Oct 5, 1772 for Franciscus Conrath, the son of Philipp Jacob Conrath and Anna Maria Catharina Fuchs. (Philipp was his brother.) He married Maria Anna Josephia SIMONIS, daughter of Joannes SIMONIS and Anna Gertrudus MEYER, on 9 February 1768 in St. Johannes, Treis. The witnesses at their marriage were Anton Conrath and Joannes Simonis. He married Maria Barbara MULLER on 4 February 1772 in Muden. The witnesses at their marriage were Anton Conrath and Laurence Konrath. (Who is Laurence Konrath?) He died on 12 July 1786 in Muden at age 44. He was a witness at the marriage of Anna Sophia Muntnich and Matthias Noll of Cochem on 5 February 1765 in Treis.

MARIA ANNA JOSEPHIA SIMONIS was baptized on 8 May 1738 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Maria Anna Josepha Simonis and Joannes Mayer. She died on 16 July 1771 in Treis at age 33. There were no known children of Franciscus Conrath and Maria Anna Josephia SIMONIS.

MARIA BARBARA MULLER was born between 1740 and 1752 in Muden.

56. ANNA FRANCISCA CONRATH (Anna Maria Francisca STURM, Joannes Jacob) was baptized on 5 February 1745 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Anna Francisca Illerichs and Theodore Bleser. Anna was a Godmother on Sept. 2, 1760 for Anna Francisca Senger, the daughter of Joannes Senger and Anna Christina Valerius. She was a Godmother on Sept. 7, 1761 for Franciscus Conrath, the some of Joannes Conrath and Anna Elisabeth Steffes. She was a Godmother on June 30, 1773 for Carl Joseph Conrath, the son of Franciscus Conrath and Maria Barbara Muller from Muden. She was a Godmother for Joannes Simonis on Dec. 12, 1774. He was the son of Joannes Simonis and Anna Francisca Conrath. She married Joannes SIMONIS on 31 January 1769 in St. Johannes. She married Joannes George STEFFES, son of Joannes Theodore STEFFES and Magdalena PILLIG, on 23 January 1781 in St. Johannes. She died on 22 February 1789 in Treis at age 44. She had a daughter that was stillborn on the same day she died.

81. MARIA ELISABETH KERN (Anna Maria KAUFMANN, Anna Elisabetha STURM ) was baptized on 27 October 1739 in St. Johannes. Her Godparents were Maria Elisabeth Kern and Jacob Kaufmann. She married Joannes MUNTNICH, son of Joannes Jacob MUNTNICH and Catharina ESCH, on 9 February 1762 in St. Johannes. The witnesses at their marriage were Joannes Boos and Petro Mayer of Pommern. She died on 19 June 1818 in Treis at age 78. JOANNES MUNTNICH was baptized on 11 May 1733 in St. Johannes. His Godparents were Joannes Munterich and Catharina, wife of Matthias Boos. He was a nail smith. Note: The name was recorded as Muntnich and Muntenich. He died on 13 May 1795 in Treis at age 62.
