Not too much is known of my Slovenian KRAMAR ancestors. On every document I found for my grandfather KRAMAR, he stated he was from St. Vid. When I first began my genealogy quest, I was blessed enough to come into contact with a terrific lady in Slovenia who may, or may not, prove to be related to my family. She told me there were many towns going by that name, so I had to find another clue. By going back through my oldest brother's babybook, I saw that his birthplace was noted as Velike Pecje so I passed that along. Through her family's efforts, I received a copy of Velike Pece parish records for my grandfather's birth family.

We know great-grandfather, Ignac KRAMAR, was born 22 July 1863 in Velike Pece, Austria (near Sentvid, 16.7 m ESE of Ljubljana). At this time, neither his parents nor siblings are known for sure. Leads are being followed to connect a possible sister, Katerina, who married John MESTNICK and emigrated to St. Louis County, Minnesota; and a possible brother, Jozef KRAMAR/KRAMER, who married a Marija KOTAR and emigrated to Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

The parish records tell us that Ignac was a part-time farmer and that he married Alojzija/Louise VOVK in 1890. She was born in Hrastov Dol, Austria, on 03 May 1863, and it appears that together they had five children. The two oldest children emigrated to the U.S., both ending up in the same town in St. Louis County, Minnesota: Ignacij/Ignatz married Apolonia/Polona/Pauline STEBLAJ>--my grandparents--and Jozefa/Josephine married Anton KRAMER. A daughter, Alojzija/Louise, apparently moved to Ljubljana and nothing further is known of her. The youngest son, Janez, also moved away from Velike Pece and married in 1933, but nothing else is known of him either at this time. The last son, Anton, remained at the homeplace, where he married Marija KASTELIC.

The two great grandparents have been verified by viewing the Social Security Applications (SS5)for my grandfather and grandaunt that settled in Minnesota. I still have much to learn about this family, both in Slovenia and in the US for any descendants.
