Donnie’s Den

WARNING:  What you are about to read may cause severe drowsiness!

Welcome to my little cyber corner of the world. If you’re here you probably want to know a little more about me. There is not much to tell but here we go.

I was born 11 September 1971 at Santa Rosa Hospital in downtown San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. We moved around the San Antonio area a lot when I was young and finally moved back to Converse in 1979. I attended Converse Elementary, Kirby Jr. High, and Judson High School where I graduated in May 1990.

I married my wonderful wife, Audrey Lorraine Floyd, on 16 MAY 1992 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Universal City, Bexar County, Texas. We know reside in Converse, Bexar County, Texas (correction we moved to Knoxville, Knox County, TN in DEC 2002) and have three beautiful daughters; Cheyenne Brittany, Savannah Bailey, and Sierra Brianna.

I’ve had a few occupations in my life. After high school I went to work for printing company as a delivery driver. In 1993 they helped my to start my own company, Stagecoach d’Livery. Despite my lack of business expertise the company did ok, but I had my goals set on my life long dream. Thus I entered the San Antonio College Law Enforcement Training Center where I graduated in June of 1994. I went to work as a Correctional Officer for Wackenhut Corrections at the North Texas Parole Violators Facility in San Antonio (go figure it’s named North in South Texas). I then got on as an officer with the Poth, Texas Police Department. It was what I had always wanted to do, work in a small town (population said 1800, they must have been counting the cows). Here I was 22, fresh from the academy with a set of ideas about right and wrong. I soon became disenchanted with the chief and some of his policies. My Uncle thought he could help me get a job in Surfside, TX, so off I went. It didn’t pan out and I ended up working at the Amaco Chemical Plant in Texas City. Audrey grew tired of this in a few months so we moved back to SA. I went to work as shop assistant for a road construction company (what the heck did I know about heavy machinery).

I had finally gotten myself and my knees into good enough condition to try the Military again (I got turned down by every branch after high school). This time the Army took me. I was off to become an MP at Ft. McClellan in Anniston, AL. After graduation, I was sent to Ft. Clayton in the Republic of Panama.

I had finally found something I really enjoyed. I not only got to be in the military, but law enforcement too. I truly enjoyed my time in the Army and to this day wish I was still there. My career was cut short due to an injury sustained when I hit a curb while running.

After getting out I applied for the United States Custom Service. While I waited I drove a sweeper truck for a while and then went to work as a delivery driver for RPS (now FedeX Ground). After a year and half, several interviews, physicals, background checks, etc. I was conditionally hired. The catch was I had to find a doctor that would say the arthritis in my foot would not get worse over time. This after I had passed all three physicals they gave me. Image my surprise that no doctor would agree that it would not get worse. So much for that.

It was time to go back to school, I had taken some criminal justice courses while in Panama, but I decided if I couldn’t actually be on the street, then I’d do something else. I liked computers, so thought I’d give it a try. After talking it over I decided I'd do the whole electronics thing so I enrolled at ITT Tech. I found a job as a Copier Repair Tech, so I could learn at school and at work. A new chapter, a new start – just not what I had planned.

While cleaning some covers on a copier I was rebuilding I inhaled some chemicals. I started coughing, but not to worry I’d just finish what I was doing… I should have stopped, to make a long story short I have now been diagnosed with Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome (RADS). So since September 27, 2000 I have been stuck at home with numerous health problems. The docs say there is no cure, and I have now developed bouts of paralysis. I try to keep the spirits up, it’s hard, but I keep my trust in the Lord and know he will see me through this.

I bet about know you’re wishing you hadn’t decided to read all of this. I’m almost done (for now). All I have left to say is thank you and good bye.

Donnie

P.S. I warned you that reading all of this may cause drowsiness.
