James William Johnson died at his home, four miles northwest of Stillwater, Friday, May 18, 1923, aged 70 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Funeral services were held at Fair Plains school house at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J.M. Purse, of Stillwater. Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges were in charge of the burial services at Lanier cemetery.
James William Johnson was born in Putman county, Missouri, May 31, 1852. He was married to Mary B. Stark October 12, 1891, at Newton, Mo.. He came to Payne county in 1889, and has since been a farmer of the county. He has been a member of the Baptist church since 1894.
Besides his widow, the decedent leaves six children: Mrs. Gladys Ryne, of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Blanche Fortner, Mrs. Esther Walker, Mrs. Marguerite Lane, Homer Johnson and Elvin Johnson, all of Stillwater, and five grand-children. All were with him at the time of his death. He also leaves one brother and three sisters.
