W.M. Gates Rites Saturday
William Mires Gates, 69, farmer who lived five miles north and a half-mile east of Stillwater,
died at his home Wednesday.
Funeral services will be conducted at Strode chapel in Stillwater at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with Rev.
Leonard H. Belknap officiating. Burial will be in Lanier cemetery.
Gates was born at Union City, Mo., March 9, 1882, the son of Timothy J. and Marie Gates. The
family moved to Nebraska when he was four years old, and then moved to Oklahoma in 1900, settling
on a farm northwest of Stillwater.
Gates was married to Sarah Angeline Lile in Stillwater, March 9, 1904. He lived in El Reno
and in California for a period and returned to Payne county in 1942.
Survivors include his wife, of the home address; five daughters, Mrs. Rena Ricker, route 2
Stillwater, Mrs. Jennie Wilkerson, route 1 Ripley, Mrs. Josephine Mick, 817 Virginia, Mrs. Margaret Mick,
1209 E. Husband, and Mrs. Mary Dennison of Stanley, N.M.; five sons, Elvin Gates, N. Perkins
road, Bill Gates, 809 E. Virginia, Henry Gates, route 2 Stillwater; Roy Gates of Stanley, N.M.; and Tim
Gates, US navy; a brother, four sisters and 31 grandchildren.
