ROBERT EDWARD CARVER the s/o George Washington Carver and Cynthia Oletha James. Robert was born 10 Oct 1846 Barretts Creek area of Carter Co,Ky. Died 13 June 1915. Burial Rock Creek Cemetery (now called Carver-Davis) between St.Paul and Quincy,Ky in Lewis County. Robert m. #1 Mary Kelly abt.1863, had 4 children. He married #2 Mary (Jacobs) Hill 18 Dec 1871 in Scioto Co,Ohio. Mary Hill d/o William Hill and Mary Insco. He served in Civil War, enlisting 1 Sept 1864 at Portsmouth,Ohio into Union Army 179th Ohio - Company C.and discharged 10 April 1865. Robert was wounded near Nashville,TN 13 Oct 1864 losing his right arm at the elbow.

All are deceased. John and Genola died infancy.

I have little information on this Mary except where she is mentioned in Robert's Pension file. Here is what I have for their children:

Myrtle Willis; Mary m. Herb Ferguson; Carl m. Minnie Alice Tackett; John m. Lenora Bond then Ruth Spriggs; James m Pearlie Ruth Crabtree; Walter m. Mamie Cyrus then Agnes Ellis; Carrie m. (4) Jeanette b. 20 Dec 1869 Mary Kelly was awarded full custody of Jeanette (see Pension File Info).

The 1879 Lower Montgomery School Census lists ED CARVER (Robt. Edward) with these children in school: Aggie (16) Frank (10) Ed (8) and Robt. (6).
ROBERT EDWARD CARVER CIVIL WAR PENSION FILE
CLAIM OF OFFICER OR SOLDIER FOR INVALID PENSION (Paraphrased- I did not copy this word for word)
The State of Ohio, County of Scioto. On this 7th day of June 1865 personally appeared Robert Carver, aged 18 yrs, a resident in the county of Lewis, and State of Kentucky, who enlisted at Jackson, in County of Jackson, State of Ohio on the 1st day of Sept 1864 as a private in Co C., commanded by Lieut.E.Jones, in the 179th Regiment of Ohio Infantry in the war of 1861, and was honorably discharged on the 10th day of April 1865. While in the service aforesaid, and in the line of his duty at Nashville,Tennessee n the 20th of October, 1864 he was struck in the right arm below the elbow, by a musket shot while in an engagement with the enemy and so shattering the arm as to render amputation necessary. That since leaving the service he has resided at Lewis Co,Ky occupation laborer. He makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the Invalid Pension Roll of the United States, on account of the disability stated above. Also personally appeared on the same day George W. Carver and Phoebe Biggs, residents of said County of Lewis who being duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Robert Carver make his mark to the foregoing declaration.

Court of Common Pleas, Meigs Co,Ohio: Mary C. Carver Plaintiff vs. Robert E. Carver, Defendant. It is adjudged and decreed that the marriage relation is hereby set aside and wholly annulled and parties wholy released from the obligations of the same. Further ordered that the custody, nurture, education and care of the said Jennette Carver, aged 5 mo. on the 20th day of April, 1870 is hereby given to said plaintiff.(END)
