Presbyterian cemetery is located out of McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee
just off the Old Sparta Road, now Highway #139, at the intersection of
Hennessee Bridge Road in sight of the Mud Creek bridge. This area
is approximately forty-five miles from the geographical center of Tennessee.
It is in the Rowland Station, Increase and Bishop areas of the past.
Shiloh Cemetery Restoration Society is dedicated to maintaining the grounds as a tribute to our ancestors, friends and family who are buried here. The first person buried here was a promising, young son, William Martin, Jr., who was born in 1816 and died in 1817. He was the son of William “Rock” and Jennie Bradford Martin. After the closing and finally the dismantling in the 1950s of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church adjacent to the cemetery, the cemetery fell victim to neglect. The death of another promising, young son, Timmie Lee Adams, 28 Aug 1985, in an automobile accident, resulted in the organization by Mrs. Jacqueline Hash Haley, a "Rock" Martin descendant, and the Adams family of the Shiloh Cemetery Restoration Society. As a result, restoration of this cemetery was started and upkeep is maintained year round. E.Q. "Tip" Miller whose Miller ancestors and family are buried here donated a pavilion. A meeting-on-the-grounds and Memorial Day have been held each year on the third Saturday of June since the tragedy. Since the restoration activity by the Society, several new burials have taken place. In 2001, recognition of slaves buried in the cemetery was acknowledged by the donation of Mrs. Jacqueline Hash Haley of a monument dedicated to them. All donations to the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery grounds will be appreciated. Mail contributions to Mrs. Jacqueline Hash Haley, P.O. Box 656, McMinnville, TN 37111. |
