Clement Lempriere (Updated March 27, 2002)

Clement appears in the early records about the same time George does.  Lempriere is assumed to be an early spelling of Lamphear (various spellings)

The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, page 428
"Lempriere, Clement, buried William Button, a Jerseyman, in Portsm. in 1693.   Richard Anthony, of Jersey, now in Portsm. gave P/A to Clement (Lampier), now of Boston, 8 Jan 1697-8.  John (Lamprill) was in the boat when Mr. Button was drowned.   List 218a.  (note that William Button was married into George's line.   Also note that Jersey refers not Jersey Island NOT New Jersey)"

A National Register of the Society of Sons of the American Revolution.   Principal Events of the American Revolution.
"Charles Lemuel Prince, Baltimore MD. (9665), son of William L.T. and Mary P. (McGill) Prince; grandson of Lawrence and Charlotte (Benton) Prince; great-grandson of Charles and Anne (Lempriere) Prince; great2-grandson of Clement Lempriere, Captain of sloop "Commerece;", great-grandson of Lemuel Benton, Colonel South Carolina Militia."

Notes from L. Ruth Verrill's Vermont Scrapbook.  (she references the Gen. Dic. of Maine and NH by Libby, Davis and Noyes, page 428")
"Clement Lempriere buried William Button a Jersey man (Jersy Island) in Portsmouth, 1693.

Richard Anthony of Jersey, now in Portsmouth, gave power of attorney to Clement Lampier, now of Boston, 8 January, 1697-8.

John Lamprill was on the boat when Mr. Button was drowned." "George Lamphear was born in Wales(?) about 1678, so Clement must have been kin, if not a brother.

One of George's daughters married Peter Button. George settled in Westerly, Rhode Island." Other notes listed: "George, b: 1678 or so. and Clement in Boston in 1693."
