Tatamagouche, Jan. 28 - In the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 21, a highly esteemed citizen and oldest resident of Tatamagouche, Mrs. Mary LANGILLE, passed peacefully to her Heavenly Home, aged ninety-seven years. Mrs. LANGILLE was the widow of William LANGILLE of French River Col. Co., who predeceased her forty-nine years ago. She was the youngest and last member of the family of ten children of David DONALDSON and his wife, Mary HUTCHINSON of Perthshire, Scotland, who with their eight children were the last settlers to come directly from Scotland to Tatamagouche (in 1849). Mrs. LANGILLE and her brother were born at French River. For the past 38 years Mrs. LANGILLE has resided with her son Ellsworth and Mrs. LANGILLE, in Tatamagouche, where most of her family reside. Some months ago she went to visit her son James and Mrs. LANGILLE, where she became ill and was lovingly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. LANGILLE and a daughter, Mrs. AITCHESON, until her death. Mrs. LANGILLE was always interested in everything pertaining to the welfare of those with whom she came in contact, though of such a great age, until a short time ago, her hands were never idle and the beautiful fancy work and quilt tops she made are treasured possessions of many relative and friends. Much of this work was donated to W.M.S. and Red Cross to swell their funds. Throughout the community she was known as "Grandma LANGILLE" or "Aunt Mary" and she will live long in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, as a fine Christian mother and a kind and loyal friend. Of her family of twelve, eight survive. Three daughters, Mary, Mrs. James MacLELLAN, Cecelia, Mrs. John AITCHESON, New Annan, Bertha, Mrs. James VINCENT, (...)ness, Montana; and five sons, David, George, James and Ellsworth, of Tatamagouche, and Wilbert of Concord, Mass., all excepting Mrs. VINCENT were at the funeral. Four sons predeceased her, Benjamin, Boyd and two infants. She is also survived by thirty-three grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral was held from her late home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, was largely attended and a profusion of lovely flowers paid silent tribute to the love in which she was held. The service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.F. DAVIS, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. G.E. WHIDDEN. Mr. DAVIS spoke from Philpians 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain." Assisting were choirs of Sharon United and Sedgewick Memorial church. The hymns sung were "Abide With Me" and "Goodnight and Goodmorning." Roland LANGILLE, a grandson, sang as a solo: "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" The pallbearers were three sons, David, George and Wilbert, two grandsons, Roy LANGILLE and Maj. J.A. LANGILLE and Dr. Dan MURRAY. Interment was in the family lot, Sunny Brae cemetery.
