Leon Walter Langille

LUNENBURG - Leon Walter Langille, 80, died peacefully, Tuesday
evening, Sept. 25, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Fitchburg,
after a long illness.
Leon was born in Fitchburg on Aug. 11, 1927, the son of the late Leon
P. and Winifred (Hunt) Langille.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1944 to 1946 as
Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theater Navy Amphibious Fleet.
Leon worked for the Town of Templeton Highway Department for many
years prior to his retirement.
He was a paid life member of the American Legion for 61 years. He was
Past Worcester County Commander, Past Sub District One Commander for
Worcester, Past Commander of the Greenville, N.H., Post, and of the
Gardner Post 129, of the Baldwinsville Post and the Lunenburg Post
283, Staff member of the Boy's State, S.A.L. Advisor, member of the
40/8 old 300 Voucher, past staff devare. He enjoyed serving and going
to hospital parties for the disabled veterans, state and national
conventions, and he served as Veteran's Agent for the Town of
Lunenburg. He also served on the Worcester County Installing Team for
the Shaker House to shelter homeless vets.
Leon leaves his wife, Mary Kathleen (McKevitte) Langille; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Jean "John" Fraser of Candia,
N.H., and Janice and Omer Arsenault of Gardner; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Charles and Linda Langille of New Ipswich, N.H.,
and Paul and Teresa Langille of Virginia Beach, Va.; two step-
daughters and one step-son-in-law, Norma Comer of Texas and Rebecca
and Don Lincoln of Greenville, N.H.; one step-son, Kevin Comer of
Lunenburg; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one uncle,
George Hunt of Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins,
as well as the mother of his children, Aline Langille of Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leon's name
to the Massachusetts Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605
c/o Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
The Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes
directed arrangements.
