LANGILLE, H. Lloyd, 84, Orleans, ON (formerly of Dorval, QC) Passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at the Ottawa General Hospital on July 3, 2004 after a short illness.
He was the devoted husband of 57 years of Norma Elizabeth (Hatherly) Langille, formerly of Truro, NS;
loving father of Barbara Ann, East Lawrencetown, NS; Paul Gordon, Pointe Claire, QC; Pamela Jean, Halifax, NS and Richard Alan (Giselle Girard), Orleans, ON;
cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Patrick Kearney), Christine (Francois Laberge), Mary, Erin (Miguel Cardoso), Michael, Christopher, and Katharine;
very special great-grandfather to Benjamin and Sarah;
beloved brother of Pauline Fox, Montreal; Lucille (Everett) Mailman and Jean (Richard) Bieber of Dartmouth, NS.
He was born in Bridgewater, NS on February 17, 1920, only son of Paul Willoughby and Luetta Mae (Smith) Langille.
He attended the Lunenburg Academy and was selected as one of the representative high school students to attend the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. As a member of the Lunenburg Boys Choir he performed at the World's Fair in New York in 1939.
While employed as a radio technician with the Northern Electric Company in Montreal in 1941, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for two years as an instructor in Wireless Mechanics in the R.A.F. Training Command at Cranwell, Lincolnshire, England. With the opening of No. 6 Canadian Bomber Group, Sgt. Langille served in charge of Maintenance of Wireless Equipment and Aircraft with 429 Squadron until the time of his repatriation in 1945. He graduated from Mount Allison University in 1948 receiving his B.A. with Honours as well as his Engineering Certificate and the O.E. Smith Engineering Prize. He worked as an engineer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Sackville, NB (1948-1951) and then in Montreal, QC retiring as Director, Engineering Services in 1979. His love of music and his musical talent were shared over many years with his family and the Junior and Senior Choirs at Strathmore United Church, Dorval, QC. Lloyd and Norma have enjoyed many years of visits from their children, grandchildren and recently, great- grandchildren. Lloyd particularly loved sharing his wit, charm and storytelling skills with the little ones.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his life on July 18, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 632, 800 Taylor Creek Blvd., Orleans, ON followed by a reception in the Legion hall. The family wishes to thank the 6th floor east medical team of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion No. 632, 800 Taylor Creek Blvd., Orleans, ON K1C 1T1 or the St Johns Anglican Church Restoration Fund, 81 Cumberland, Lunenburg, NS B0J 2C0.
