Son of Philip R. Langell and Anna Kirchner Langell.
Husband of Carol J. Minor Langell.
Father of Susan Annamae Langell (predeceased), Philip D. Langell, III, Lynne Downs, and Dean F. Langell.
After moving with his family to Newark, he was employed at the Chrysler parts plant for 40 years, taking time off to proudly serve his country in the US Army during World War II.
Throughout his lifetime, Philip used his artistic talents to design and build several ultra light airplanes, two boats, and many model airplanes. He found companionship with others who enjoyed these pursuits as a member of the Delaware R/C Club - AMA # 197.
A lover of music, Philip was a member of the chorus of the Brandywine Barbershoppers. He also played Mayor Shinn in a production of "The Music Man" at Salesianum School in 1962.
Philip was a longtime member of Kingswood U.M. church.

Mr. Philip D. Langell, Jr., age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Christiana Hospital.

Philip was born in Marine City, Michigan on October 10, 1920 and was the son of the late Philip R. Langell and Anna Kirchner Langell. After moving with his family to Newark, he was employed at the Chrysler parts plant for 40 years, taking time off to proudly serve his country in the US Army during World War II.

Throughout his lifetime, Philip used his artistic talents to design and build several ultra light airplanes, two boats, and many model airplanes. He found companionship with others who enjoyed these pursuits as a member of the Delaware R/C Club - AMA # 197. A lover of music, Philip was a member of the chorus of the Brandywine Barbershoppers. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Annamae Langell; brothers; Charles Langell, Louis Langell, and Leonard Langell; and his sister, Josephine James. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol J. Minor Langell; his children, Philip D. Langell, III and wife, Linda of Newark, DE, Lynne Downs and husband, Stephen of Lexington, SC, Dean F. Langell and wife, Stephanie of Millsboro, DE; and 6 grandchildren, Philip, Brandon, Lauren, Craig, Julia, and Meredith.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Monday, June 14, at Kingswood UM Church, 300 Marrows Road, Newark, DE, where friends may call from 10-11 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, 700 A River Road, Wilmington, DE 19809.
