John Barry, oldest proven ancestor of his line, was born about 1715 in Wales and married Margaret Taylor about 1735. He died in 1752 but it is unknown whether in Wales or in America. Their only known son was William Taylor Barry b. about 1740 probably in Wales.

William Taylor Barry married Sarah Gee prior to 1760 and can be proven to be in Virginia by 1786. He died in Virginia in 1797. The children of William Taylor Barry and Sarah Gee were: Joseph Stewart Barry (b. c1760), John Gee Barry (b. c1785), James T. Barry (b. c1786), William Lawson Barry, Charles Moore Barry and Richard Henry Barry.

James T. Barry married Priscilla Moore (born c1820, Barren Co., Kentucky), probably as a second wife. Priscilla was a granddaughter of Joseph Barry and his wife, Agnes Wilson, of Lunenburg Co., Virginia.
