The earliest known ancestor of this line is George Berry, born about 1761, probably in Northumberland Co., Virginia. George was reported to have served as a Captain in the navy during the Revolutionary War and was at the battle of Carter's Landing, Virginia. In January 1783 he married Jane Carter in Lancaster Co., Virginia. They can be found on the Orange Co., Virginia Tax Lists between 1787-1803. Their children were: Ellen R. Berry, b. 1783; William Berry, b. 1786; George C. Berry, b. 1787; Jane Berry, b. 1789; Cyrill Berry, b. 1791; Henry Berry, b. 1793; Silas Berry, b. 1796; and Jacob C. Berry, b. 1798. George and Jane settled in Scott Co., Kentucky after 1803 where George farmed, operated a sawmill, and served as Clerk of the Scott County Court. His obituary is found in the Lexington Observer and Reporter dated May 22, 1839 stating that he was born in Virginia around 1761 and was 78 years of age at his death. August 7, 2011
