The earliest known ancestor of this line is William Berry who is estimated to have been born about 1781 in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina. William Berry married Margaret Copeland in 1821 in South Carolina. This couple is believed to have moved to Blount Co., Alabama, between 1823 (birth of first child) and 1825 (birth of second child). William Berry appears on the 1840 Blount Co., Alabama, census and died there between 1843 (land transfer) and the 1850 Federal census. Known children are: James Gilmore Berry and George Washington Berry. Descendants of this line are found primarily in Texas.
