John Berry, the earliest known ancestor of this line, was born about 1805, probably in Pennsylvania. John Berry married Elizabeth Eckles, daughter of James Eckles and Elizabeth Berry, and they had nine children, all born in West Finley, Washington Co., Pennsylvania, to wit: Sarah Ann, b.1828, [m. Solomon Hertzog], James [m. Margaret Sprowls and later moved to Missouri], John, Elizabeth, Stephen, Jemima, Samuel, William and Robert, b. 1843, the youngest. John Berry died Jan 9, 1843. Sometime after 1850 his widow, Elizabeth, and the younger children moved to what is now Ohio Co., West Virginia. Elizabeth died in Missouri in 1871.
