Garrett Berry was born about 1761, probably in Virginia. He can first be documented on the 1782 Rockingham Co., Virginia Tax Lists, where he remained through 1787. His wife's name was Mary, as shown on the baptismal record for their daughter, Elizabeth Berry (baptized June 16, 1783 by Rev. Schmidt in Rockingham). Garrett Berry migrated to Madison Co., Kentucky in 1789 and remained there until his death after 1827. His children were: Elizabeth Berry (1783-<1870) [m. Peter Thomas]; William Berry (1786-<1860) (m. Sally Baxter); John Berry (1787-1817) [m. Mary 'Polly' Grimes]; Patsy Berry (<1791-?) [m. Levi Kidwell]; Sally Berry (1792-1875) [m. Sylvester Baxter]; Peter H. Berry (c1793-c1860) [m. Elizabeth Ashbrook]; Mary Berry (1800-?) [m. Samuel Wry]; James H. Berry (1801-1883) [m. Catherine Ann Elder]; Frances Berry (c1803->1880) [m. Philip Webber].
