The earliest known ancestor of this line, Lewis G. Berry, was born about 1806 in Southern Tyrol, Italy. His original surname was Bore which also appears as Burrie. On 28 December 1835, Lewis Bore arrived at the Port of New York on the ship Formosa from Le Havre, France. His place of origin was listed as Shock, Bavaria. By February of 1843, Lewis G. Berry married Nancy Thompson and they settled in Randolph Co., North Carolina by 1850 Lewis died there in 1892. Known children were a son, Charles W. Berry, born about 1830 and a daughter, Martha Berry, born about 1837, both in North Carolina. Charles W. Berry remained in Randolph Co., North Carolina, until his death in 1903.
