John C. Berry

The earliest known ancestor of this line was John C. Berry, b. August 20, 1794, in Port William, Franklin Co., Kentucky (now Carrollton, Carroll Co., KY). John was affectionately known by relatives and descendants as “Uncle Jackie”. He died in Salem, Dent Co., Missouri on January 7, 1898 at the age of 103. He married his first wife, Elizabeth Melton, on October 27, 1826 In Fayette Co., Illinois. The first of their fifteen children, William Kendall Berry, was born in Fayette Co. in 1828. Their children, John Henry Berry (b. 1830), Martin Henry Berry (b. 1832), Rebecca Elizabeth Berry (b. 1834) were born in Phelps Co., Missouri. Their next four children were born in Crawford Co., Missouri, namely, James Hamilton Berry (b. 1836), Cynthia Anne Berry (b. 1839), Amos Ery Berry (b. 1841) and Frances Marion Berry (b. 1843). The remaining seven children of this first marriage were all born in Dent Co., Missouri. They are Loucasta Rebecca Berry (b. 1845), David Arcadia Berry (b. 1848), Elizabeth Berry (b. 1851), Silas Asa Berry (b. 1854), Jackie Berry (b. 1856) and Enoch Ebenezer Berry (b. 1858).

John C. Berry married his second wife, Rebecca Lucinda Creasey, on February 24, 1867 in Dent Co., Missouri. All six of their children were born in Dent Co.: Joseph George Washington Berry (b. 1868), Rebecca Mary Ellen Berry (b. 1870), Calvin Theodore Berry (b. 1873), Martha Ellen Berry (b. 1875), Pacific Berry (b. 1877) and Andrew Jackson Berry (b. 1878).
