William Berry

William Berry is estimated to have been born between 1730 and 1735, probably in Maryland. He married Elizabeth [surname unknown] about 1752. Known children are Joseph Berry (b. <1755), William Berry Jr. (b. <1755), Lott Berry, John Berry, James Malcom Berry (b. c1761/65), all born in Maryland, and Lucy (Berry) McKieran, possibly born in North Carolina. By 1770, William Berry was living in that part of Rowan County, North Carolina that became Burke County in 1777. There is some evidence that William Berry was killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain on October 7, 1780. It can be proven that he died by March 15, 1781, through Burke County court documents filed by his executors, William Moore and Elizabeth Berry. Sons William Berry Jr. died in Fairfield County, South Carolina in 1824 and James Malcom Berry died in Blount County, Alabama in 1846.
