with Aunt Tory and Uncle Bill ASHLEY and it gave me an
important date too - Westville school was destroyed 20/21 Feb
1944.
We were
at Aunt's that night in the basement when the raid to get St
Paul's school
took place (D-Day was being planned there). All the windows were
blown in
and we had to walk back past the school which was blazing. Down
Cobbold Road - I
think the shelters in Wendell Park were full - arrived at our
flat Emlyn
Gardens and were told not to go in front room as unexploded in
courtyard.
What a night.
surprising what you can recall from age 6 and a half must have
been trauma.
You can walk the route on the map - north up Cathnor - Goodwin - Batson -
Haydn Park - Cobbold Road
I hope Google get to street view soon like they have for Sydney
