1553 Thomas and Jone Burshall als Lankesheire in will of Alice Wynchcombe in Oxfordshire
There is a brief reference to Thomas and Jone Burshall als Lankesheire in a 1553 will of Alice Wynchcombe of Bradwell.
Ref. O.R.O., MS. Wills Oxon. 180.189, f. 189r.
this reference sent By Geoff see Bowles Research
I've only got brief notes from the will, it was
not one that I inspected
personally - but amongst bequests of sheep etc to members of her
family, Alice Wynchcombe includes -
'To Jone Burshall als Lankesheire 1 bz. barley.'
and Thomas Burshall als Lankesheire is mentioned at the end -
probably as
a witness.
perhaps these BURSHALL are ancestors of all our clans. I wonder if the BURSHALL came from Lancashire BUT people wanted to call them by the county from whence they came. Presumably the same Thomas in 1544 Thomas Lanckashire in Broadwell - not shown as Burshall. Broadwell is just south of Kencot and Alvescott
IGI caters for various spellings on BURSHALL and only 6 in Lancashire earliest being 1694
