Thomas LANKASHEERE 1645 Marriage

from the registers of All Hallows Tottenham Parish Registers
I have not linked this couple into my tree but it is very much the way we spell the name
Thomas LANKASHEERE, of Manchester, gent., & Elizabeth DRAKE, widow of Timothy DRAKE, of Gracious Street, London, woollendraper 06 October 1645

This volume covers the reign of Charles I (1626–1649), the Commonwealth (1649–1660), and the reign of Charles II up until 1679. There are no records for the first six years of the Restoration (1660–1666). In common with that of many other parish registers throughout England and Wales, the quality of the entries suffers a serious decline from the Civil War onwards—this, regrettably, can make life exceedingly difficult for the family historian. Many registers were not kept at all, others were wholly or partially destroyed, or lost. From 1653 onwards Justices of the Peace alone were empowered to solemnize marriages. The parish clerk was supposed to record births, marriages and deaths, but often did not. The registers for All Hallows are, in fact, more complete than many, but nevertheless there are fewer than 400 entries for this whole period, over a third of them in the first fifteen years.
