""Correspondence with and attendance on Mr Reed in respect of 19 St
James Street, Long Acre recommending to proceed against
Mr Lankshear of Basinghall Street to recover possession of the premises.
Lankshear denied involvement and claimed
responsibility lay with his brother Thomas Lankshear whose whereabouts were
currently unknown. Mr Reed agreed he could not identify Lankshear of
Basinghall Street as being the leaseholder.""
My reply and comments
Thank you so much Ann this is wonderful to have
1856 Lankshear Thomas & Co., operated a business as manufacturers of
travelling desks, dressing cases,
pocket books, etc. 29 Basinghall Street, City see 1861 Thomas and Jane Lankshear
However he was not there in a census we finally found him at 6 , Seven
Sisters Road Richmond Villas
(Note: perhaps I should tell the court as they seemed to have lost him)
he was also a Proprietor of Houses so I guess his brother ran the business and
paid him rent
and he did move around 1881 he was living in Manchester
From at least 1839 to 1852 the business was at 18 Sekforde Street Clerkenwell see 1839 Thomas LANKSHEAR - Pocket-book maker - Seckford St, Clerkenwell and 1852 London Directory
Thomas in a son of my great great grandparents John amd Margaret
William was a Mariner
John my ggfather was a leather worker
Alfred was a bookbinder
Joseph in 1851 was a Cooper and by 1861 was a Dealer
that sounds like a career change that might involve the Basinghall business
Of course I have not proven that Thomas was a sibling but I am accepting the original gedcom research
