As far as I can tell the USA LANKSHEARs are descended from one man but his story is complex due to name changes
1846 Job born in Somerset see 1835 Thomas LANKSHEAR marriage to Sarah Cornick
1870 Job Lankshear marriage to Emily Horsey
1871 Goes to USA as Jacob
1870 Job Lankshear at Langport Somerset marriage - Emily Horsey then went to USA
Emily Horsey married Job Lankshear went to USA - Possible Births etc
1871 LANKSHEARs arrive in USA - Jacob(?) and Emily with Frank
I guess maybe Job in Somerset dialect sounded like Jacob on arrival in US. and
also like Joe so he became Joseph later
But why Jeremiah - he seems to have been known by every J main line name from the Old Testament
1880 in Detroit census as Jeramiah SANKSHEAR
1880 Lankshear in USA - Job Joseph or Jeremiah
1881 son George is visiting his uncle in England see 1855 James Lankshear marriage Susanna Davey Hook Dorest
I guess Emily had died by then
They returned with their Aunt Ada on 22 Apr 1881 England City Of Brussels
Ada Lankshire Spinster 19 F
George Lankshire Child, Youngster 8 M
Jane Lankshire Child, Youngster 6 F
only arrival for Ada at Castle Garden
I wonder if anyone went them to UK
I cannot find Jane in UK in 1881 census - someone showed me a Jane born Detroit
1875 but she is shown as a daughter of John CHILDS so too inconclusive
BUT she was there
Ada is daughter of 1835 Thomas LANKSHEAR marriage to Sarah Cornick - Ada may have stayed in USA
1882 Joseph Lankshear marriage Mary Lemar BUT 1900 has it as Luman
1889 Jennie Lankshear Death in Detroit USA
Alas Job/Joe had a lot of tragedy - son Frank does not appear to have lived as
oldest child in 1880 is George aged 7.
George appears in 1881 back with an Uncle in UK and I believe his mother Emily
had died around then.
1889 daughter Jennie and 2 other friends die in a ghastly school fire - cotton
frilly Christmas dresses caught by a candle
and also I have no trace of Robert and Mary who were in 1880 census
1890 Joseph Lankshear blacksmith in USA
1890 directory a blacksmith Joseph and 1893 now a dairy still Joseph and stays with that name
1893 Joseph Lankshear in Detroit USA now as Dairy
But happily Joe marries Mary Luman who also has a daughter Jennie and son George
continues with a family that become the LANKSHEAR clan of USA.
Just amazing how we have found so much information on Job
One name studies can be so rewarding
1900 Joseph with Mary (nee Luman) and son George Lankshear in Detroit USA
1901 George Lankshear marriage to Catherine Curran
1905 and 1941 Beulah A Lankshear
1910 and 1917 George and Joseph Lankshear in Detroit USA
1920 USA Census - George Lankshear and Family
1930 USA Census - George Lankshear and Family
1905 and 1941 Beulah A Lankshear
Social Securites Death Index USA Lankshear - includes George's sons Fred and George and their wives
1969 George J. Lankshear Death USA
1972 Lillian Lankshear Michigan USA Death
1994 LANKSHEAR - California Deaths, 1940-97 - A record of Jon who died 1994 born 1945 to a mother who was a LANKSHEAR
Something I wrote before the 1871 Jacob record was found
Anthony's gedcom said Job was born 11 May 1846. And nothing else was known
other than a marriage in 1870.
Joseph appears in USA and in 1900 said he was born in May 1847 and has been
in USA for 30 years. By 1900 he was married to Mary Luman. In 1880 census Job
was Jeramiah Sankshear and was the working as a smith which he was still doing in
1890. Emily was shown as his first wife which confirms she was Emily Horsey. I
guess Job was too difficult a name for Detroitians and he became Jerry
(Jeremiah) and then preferred Joe.
