England and English Counties
Are
you confused about England, United Kingdom, Great Britain etc
Dear USA friends be sensitive to naming conventions in UK - there may be Middlesex County in USA but the area near London is the County of Middlesex - or just say "Middlesex" - and it is Oxfordshire not Oxford County also sometimes just called Oxford although there is a City of Oxford and an abbreviation is Oxon - check Maps etc before you leap.
Some names are used in USA and UK. There is a "IOW Co" in Virginia and an "IOW" is an island off south coast of England.

Hampshire or Hants - From the county itself http://www.hants.gov.uk/localpages/names.html
"Hampshire" is often abbreviated in written form to "Hants"
and which sometimes gives rise to puzzlement. The abbreviated form is derived
from the Old English Hantum plus Scir (meaning a district governed from the
settlement now known as Southampton) and the Anglo-Saxons called it Hamtunschire.
At the time of the Domesday Book (1086) this was compressed to Hantescire.
