S T A T E   O F   V E R M O N T,
RUTLAND, to wit:

Be it Remembered, That ________________ at a term of the County Court, began and held at Rutland within and for the County of Rutland aforesaid, on the second Tuesday of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight comes James Morgan an alien, and irishmen born in the county of Armagh, Ireland in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two at present, residing at Castleton in the County of Rutland and State of Vermont, and did, on this 15th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight personally appear in court here, and then and there before said court declare on oath in the words following, to wit:

"I James Morgan do solmenly swear, that I have resided in the United States three years previous to arriving at the age of twenty-one years, and have continued to reside therein to the present time ; and that for three years last past, it has been bona fide my intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty whatever and particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Britain & Ireland whereof I am at present a subject, So help me God."

Afterwards, that is to say in the same term and on the same day as aforesaid, again personally appeard the said James in court, and applies himself to the court here to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, conformably to the Statutes of the said United States in each case made and provided ; and by the affidavits of J. A. Minogue & Patrick Sloan citizens of the United States, the said applicant does prove, to the satisfaction of said court, that he has resided within the said United States for five years, at least, next proceeding the date aforesaid, and has resided within the State of Vermont one year at least next preceding the date aforesaid ; and furthermore that during the time aforesaid, the said applicant has behaved as a man of good moral character ; attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, which said affidavits now remain of file

Whereupon, It is considered by the Court here, That the said James be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, and to declare and does thereupon declare before the court now here, and oath, in the words following, to wit:

"I James Morgan do solemnly swear before the court now here, that I will support the Constitution of the United States ; and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiances and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state, and sovreignty whatever and particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Britain & Ireland whereof I was heretofore a subject, So help me God."
