McCLEARY AVENUE WOMAN SAVES THREE CHILDREN AND DIES TRYING TO SAVE OTHERS

Rushes into one bedroom, Warns Children home is afire; Then tries to make way into second room to save two children and is overcome--- Tragedy occurs at 7 o'clock this morning. Three of the children save lives by leaping through window after mother's warning.

After successfully warning three of her five children that the house was afire, and giving them time to leap through windows to safety, Mrs. Sarah Herman turned back into her burning home on McCleary Avenue, about 7 o'clock this morning, in a heroic, but unsuccessful attempt to rescue the two remaining children of her family, the blaze thus costing three lives.

THE DEAD:
  • Mrs. SARAH HERMAN, aged 37 years
  • ELIZABETH HERMAN aged 3 years
  • MARTIN HERMAN aged 17 months
  • The heroic mother had made her way to a front window of the bedroom and had apparently been overcome by smoke. The bodies were burned & charred when found, after the fire had been subdued.
