Virginia: In the name of God, Amen, I, Thos Burnett of the Parish of Southpharnam and the County of Essex being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and perfect memory praised be God for the same, and knowing the uncertainty of the transitory life and that all flesh is grass and must stoope to death and being desirous to settle the things in order before I go hence and be nomore seen. I do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following: Imprimis, I give and bequeath my Soul into the hands of God Almighty my Creator and Maker who gave it me assuredly believing that I shall receive full pardon free and absolute remission of all my sins and be saved by the precious death and merits of his Son my mediator and redeemer Jesus Christ. I bequeath my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in decent and Christian manner as my Extrs or Trustees hereafter named shall think fit. Jeremiah died before July 1816 at Wayne Co., Kentucky.3
Jeremiah II may have had several wives, names unknown. He enlisted on 26 December 1776 from Amherst Co., Virginia for six months in the Revolutionary War asn was a private in the 10th Virginia Regulars under Capt. James Franklin. The company muster roll of 31 May 1777 shows that he and his brother, John, deserted on 15 March 1777. Bork indicates that Mr. Ray Blevins had related to her and that she had heard the same story while in Wayne Co., Kentucky on several trips, that Jeremiah of Wayne was called "Big Jerry." and was a champion bare-fist fighter. He is said to have bitten a finger from an opponent when the opponent played dirty. Also Jerry had captured two British Officer's and to humiliate them, he made them drink whiskey from his hands until they became drunk. Realizing the difficulty he faced, due to his conduct, he went AWOL from the Army.4

William was a minister in the Baptist Church. He enlisted as a chaplin 15 July 1863, from Sevier Co. where he had settled in 1850, in Co. K. 3rd E. Tenn. Cav. He served in the hospital at Camp Catlett for two months and was also in a field hospital. In October 1864, he was captured at Athens, Alabama and held at Meridian, Mississippi for two months. At Nashville in 1864, he was detailed on special duty, and came to Knox Co. to recruit for two months. He received his honorable discharge at Nashville in May 1865. Rev. Burnett was clerk of the circuit court of Sevier County from 1865 to 1867, county clerk for two years, and also trustee of Sevier County before and after the war. He died 14 April 1881 at his home of heart disease.
