The Fowkes family of Stafford, and Yorkshire


Pemela Fowkes, born November 13, 1863, in Cradley Heath, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire. She married Walter Porter, October 5, 1882, in Middlesbrough, York. Together they owned a bakery shop in Middlesbrough, on the corner of Russell and Clarence St. Pemela and Walter had a staggering number of children. (See Porter page). Her history, though thin at the moment, is a work in progress. This is part of her story:




Generation No. 1

John Fowkes, born abt. 1840, Stafford, worked as a furnace iron keeper, married Mary Jones, born abt. 1840, died 1876, Guisbrough, Yorkshire.

Their children:

  • Pemela, born November 1863
  • John, born abt. 1864
  • Samuel, born abt. 1866
  • Henry, born abt. 1873
  • Catherine A., born abt. 1874
  • Ruth, born abt. 1877
