2. Jane2 Brown (John 1); born circa 1738 at Antrim Co., Ireland; 7, 8 married James Dorroh before 1762 at Antrim Co., Ireland; 9, 10 died 22 Oct 1836 at Laurens Co., SC; 11 buried after 22 Oct 1836 at Dorroh Field Cemetery, near Gray Court, Laurens Co., SC. 12, 13

IGI, Ireland, showed Jane and James the parents of four children, the first born in 1762 in Antrim Co., Ireland. 14 She immigrated before 8 Nov 1772; At the Council Meeting 8 Nov. 1772, a James Daragh, (recently arrived), was granted 350 acres of land. (100 acres-father, 50 acres ea-wife and 4 children under 16)

*This is where some of the disagreements begin, Mathew states he arrived here at twelve years of age, in that case it would be 1764, so it is clear he did not come with Jane and James but they came later. RML3

This land originally Craven County, which was later Berkeley County and is now Laurens County. 15, 16

Matthew2 Brown (John 1); born 1752 at County Wexford, Ireland; 81, 82 married Jane Jones circa 1777 at Laurens Co., SC;83 , 84 died 24 Dec 1839 at Union Twp., Shelby Co., IN; 85, 86, 87 buried after 24 Dec 1839 at Little Blue River Cemetery, Shelby Co., IN; Mathew does not have Rev. Marker, but both have tombstones. Note: Richard H. Weightman at dedication of new grave marker abt 1990. 88, 89

He a native of Ireland, was born in the year 1753, but emigrated to Ohio from South Carolina, and settled, in 1803, on the farm now owned by John Baughman, in Harrison. He was a farmer by occupation, a Democrat in politics. His wife was Jane Jones, a native of South Carolina. She had eight children: Nancy, married to Samuel Harlen, and living in Indiana; David, married to Susan Glidewell, and also in Indiana; Katie, the wife of George Harlen and living in Iowa; Robert, married to Katie Cotton, also in Indiana; Samuel, married to Betsey Atherton, and living in Indiana; Sarah, the wife of Thomas Goulding, of Indiana; Betsoy(sp), married to Isaac Ferris and residing in Hamilton county; and John, married to Sarah Herm, of the same county after 1753. 90 He was came to America when age twelve years old with widowed mother and brothers and sisters.

Version 2: Copied from a record made in 1921 by Landy (Hurst) Brown, from a record by John H.(erron) Brown in 1905- his 76th year. Done this (?) year by A.B.Brown: Matthew Brown, the elder, with nine brothers and his parents, came to South Carolina from England in 1763, he being at that time 10 yrs. of age. He was of Scotch-Irish descent. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was married to Jane Jones, of Welsh descent. He brought his family to Crosley Tp, Hamilton Co, OH in 1803. His family consisted of four sons and four daughters. The sons were named (1) David (2) Robert (3) Samuel and (4) John. The daughters were (1) Catherine (2) Nancy (3) Elizabeth and (4) Sarah.

"MATHEW BROWN SEN

was born in Ireland, and came to South Carolina with his parents and nine brothers in 1764. He was a soldier in the Revolution Army of

the United States. Died in 1839. 86 years.

His wife's maiden name was Jane. She was of Welch descent. She died in 1841 aged 89 years. They were buried in

Little Blue River Grave Yard of the Little Blue River Baptist Church of Shelby co, Indiana. They were parents of 8 children, 4

boys and 4 girls. They came to Ohio in 1803. Settled in Crosby Township, Hamilton County.

The sons names are David, Robert, Samuel and John. The daughters Catherine, Nancy, Elisabeth and Sarah.

Mr Brown was a pioneer settler in Union Township of Shelby co, IND. He owned a gristmill, ground corn and wheat for

bread. He was a use- ful man in time of need, sold corn 25 cents per Bu. regardless of price. If the man did not have money

but honest, he would get the corn". 91, 92, 93 He immigrated before 1 Sep 1767; "The following BROWNS left Newry, County Down,

Northern Ireland, arrived onboard the Brittania in Charlestown, SC and petitioned for land on Sept.1, 1767 under the Bounty Act of 1761.

Robert, Sr petitioned for 300 acres, equivalent for himself, a wife and three children age fifteen or under. Ann age 42. Mathew age 12. William

age 8. Elizabeth age 2. Robert, Sarah, Mary, Roger, John and Rebekah petitioned for 100 acres each, meaning they were all single and sixteen

years of age or older.

He lived before 1776 at 96 Dist., Laurens Co, SC. 95 ; pension reads "I was born in Co. Wexford , Ireland in 1752. Came to America when 12 yrs. old, fought in the War for 8 years, part of the time under General Kilgore. Acted as a spy, dressing as an Indian.....etc. Came to Cininnati, Ohio in the year 1803. Then to Shelby Co., Ind. in 1826. 96 He emigrated after 1820 from Shelby Co., IN; followed son Robert. 97 He was deed the East half of the South West quarter of section seven in township thirteen north of range eight east in the District of Brookville & State of Indiana Containing fifty four acres & twenty hundreths of an acre on 20 Oct 1824 at Brookville, IN. 98 He Applied for Pension # S32135 on 5 Sep 1832 at Shelby Co, IN. 99

Private horseman in the Militia from South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. 113 He emigrated on 11 Apr 1817; Moved to Union County, Indiana from Franklin County, Indiana. 114 He left a will on 29 Jan 1821 at Will Book A-1 1821-1828, Union Co., IN; Mentioned in entry are:

Son William...the farm whereon I now live containing 86 acres. NE QTR 32-11-2w

According to John's will, his son William Brown was given the farm where John was living, which contained about 86 acres, lying in the NE1/4 of Section 35, T 11 of Range 2 W. He gave his son Matthew Scott Brown the family Bible and other books. $18 worth of items were bequeathed to Matthew Brown and some items were bequeathed to William Brown. Also listed was a sale bill of the property, John Brown, William Brown, Isaac Brown, John B. Brown purchased articles at this sale. Dated March 17, 1827. 115, 116
