Ancestry of William George Klippel

Ancestors of William George KLIPPEL

William George Klippel came to the United States in 1888. In the mid-1960s, his grandson, Ken Klippel and his family went back to Germany and were able to trace the Klippel family to about 1695. Ken's wife, Lesly, went to Nieder-Weisel and copied information from the parish registers. She also went to the neighboring villages of Granvenswiesbach, Weiperfelden, Hasselborn and Brandoberndorf where others of Ken's ancestors were born and copied their information from the parish registers. She learned that the founder of the Klippel family in Nieder-Weisel was Johannes Klippel, a journeyman shoemaker. Since he was Catholic in a Lutheran village, he probably came from southeast Germany where the Klippel name is more common and the majority of the people are Catholic. Nieder-Weisel is located near the autobahn about 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of Frankfurt. Alan Haintz has created a web site devoted to the history of the town and its people at http://users.bigpond.net.au/haintz/. Nieder-Weisel was the summer home of Count Werner von Weisel in the 1200s and except for the Klippels who came to Nieder-Weisel about 1700, Ken's other ancestors were probably part of the Count's large group of servants and retainers. The name Klippel means someone who dwells by a cliff. This is the record of the ancestors of William George Klippel.

The ancestry report uses 'Ahnentafel' numbering. This means that a person's parent's numbers will be twice as large as the person's number. So if someone's number is 15, her father will be number 30, and mother will be 31. Her child will be number 7.
