This site contains the ancestors and descendants of William Norman, a Revolutionary War soldier of Virginia, who migrated to Lincoln County, Georgia after the Revolutionary War. William was the grandson of Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney of Virginia through their son, Joseph. This site will trace William's descendants from Virginia to Georgia and beyond.
My name is Liz Nash. I am descended from William through his daughter Susannah. If you are a descendant of Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney, your input and information will be gratefully accepted. The Norman Family Association, Georgia Division is an organization of William Norman of Virginia descendants There is a Norman family reunion every two years in Lincoln County, Georgia. The next reunion is scheduled for the first weekend in August 2007. While the Association is primarily composed of the descendants of William Norman, all branches of the Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney line are invited to attend the reunion and to join our Norman Family Association. Dues are $7.50 per year and includes the family newsletter which is issued in February, June and October. The Association fiscal year is August 1 to July 31.

If you have submissions for the Newsletter, email the information to Joseph T. Rei at gadawg69@comcast.net. Please feel free to share all information of interest to members of the Norman family. We especially need death notices, births and anecdotes of Norman descendents. If anyone has an interesting story about their Norman ancestor, please share it.
The Norman families have started a DNA project to determine scientifically how the various Norman may or may not be related. It is very exciting to see some of the results. We do need more Norman males with the last name of Norman who would be willing to participate. For details of cost and method, contact me. Be sure to check both sites.

The information on this site has been well researched and documented, but do not accept it as absolute proof. Much research has been done by many Normans, but there are always errors and differences. We will try to put the most reliable information on this site, but we do not say that it is absolutely correct. Credit is given to the following publications:
"The Norman Family of Lincoln County," compiled from material submitted by family members, edited by the Norman Family Association, Georgia Division Genealogy Committee, Published in 1997.
"The Normans of Normandy Hall," by Dr. Lois L. Norman, 1976. A history of the Normans from Isaac through William's son George Norman's descendants. The book is primarily about the descendants of George Norman and Sarah Groce, and is being republished by the Norman Family Association thanks to the generosity of Dr. Lois Norman's heirs. They have donated the copyrights to the Norman Family Association. The price of the book is $25 plus $5 for shipping costs. To order, email the Norman Family Association.
"History of the Culpeper County Normans" by Nellie Virginia Norman, 1972. We now have this 47 page booklet online. Click on the title and browse.
"Lincoln County Cemeteries," by Betty Sue Dunaway Bunch and Larry Raymond Butler in 1999. This is available for purchase from the Lincoln County, GA Library for $40.00. Janice Turner has donated the transcripts for Lincoln County Cemeteries to the Lincoln County GenWeb site. Go to the site and click on Lincoln County Cemeteries.
"Lincoln County Genealogy and History," compiled by Robert S. Davis, Jr. and James E. Dorsey in 1987.
"An 1800 Census for Lincoln County, Georgia," compiled by Frank Parker Hudson, 1977. This is available for purchase from the Lincoln County, GA Library and from the author for $10.00. It contains much helpful information including militia districts and the captains of the districts from 1785-1830.
"From Lincoln to Linden," Correspondence of the Glaze Family descendants of Susannah Norman and David Glaze. Susannah was the daughter of William. These letters were compiled, edited and transcribed by Ronald G. Hopkins, 1992 and include many from the Lincoln County, Georgia relatives to the Linden County, Texas relatives.
"The Scribe on Flat Creek," Vol. 1, Rita Bryant Turner, Ed. D., This work is a collection of letters and documents belonging to John Randolph Glaze which were found in a desk of his. Evidently J.R. kept everything. Rita says, "The desk was crammed with newspapers. correspondence, statements, legal forms, ballots, grocery lists and speeches. More important to the Normans, the desk also contained many letters written by the Lincoln County Norman and Glaze family relatives. These two books give a vivid description of Norman family life from 1835 through the early 1900s and make the people very real. With the kind permission of the authors, I have included some excerpts from the letters on the appropriate individual pages.
Other sources include many original documents in the Lincoln County Courthouse, contributions from Lincoln County Normans and other Norman cousins throughout the country, plus the excellent resources of the Lincoln County Library.

This has the deed of land sold in 1814 and registered in 1830 which names Uphanny (Euphony) as William's wife.
Norman Family Photo Album includes the David Glaze family bible.
These photos were donated by Norman and Glaze relatives. Some were found in the effects of Ruth and Marie Norman after their deaths in 2001. Many of the photos have not been identified. The pages are updated frequently so be sure to visit often. The Glaze family bible may take time to upload but be patient. It is worth it.
