11293 - This donor is a documented male descendant of Susannah Norman, daughter of William Norman, grandson of Isaac. Although the last name is not Norman, I thought it very interesting to see the close DNA match even though he came through a female line. Maybe someone knowledgeable could explain what this means.

*Based on increasing data from surname studies, FTDNA has listed markers that they feel are "fast movers" or more likely to show a mutation in fewer generations. These markers are shown in red in the "DYS" row above.
Here are the times back to the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) when ALL the markers match. For example, with 37/37 (all 37 markers match), there is a 50% probability that the MRCA was no longer than 5 generations, and a 90% probability that the MRCA was within the last 16 generations. Compare these with 25 and 12 -- with 25 markers, there is a 50% probability that the MRCA was within the last 7 generations, while with 12 markers, there is a 50% probability that the MRCA was within the last 14.5 generations.
Detailed information by User ID. A more detailed comparasion will be coming as soon as the tests are completed. We need more male Norman descendants of Isaac to participate.

Preliminary findings are that Isaac exactly matches 3 descendants of Eli Norman and 1 descendant of Clement Norman in the 25 marker test. In the 12 marker test, Isaac matches a descendant each of Martin and William Norman, Jr. Eli and Clement are said to be descendants of Thomas Norman of Stafford County, VA.
Nellie Virginia Norman said in her book, "History of the Culpeper County Normans" :
The following information concerning Norman's Ford is from Virginia Land Register, Volume XII, page 484;
"Norman's Ford, on the Rappahannock River took its name from Isaac Norman of the Stafford Family who first settled there and in June 1726 had a land grant on the Spotsylvania (later Culpeper) shore of the river."
This passage seems to confirm that Isaac's parents were from Stafford County, VA. The connection between Isaac and Eli Norman of Stafford County, VA, has yet to be explored. If you have any information or evidence, please contact me.

DYS stands for D = DNA, Y = Y-chromosome, S = (unique) segment [or "single copy sequence" according to "Forensic DNA Typing" by John Butler]. The DYS numbering scheme (e.g. DYS388, DYS390) for the Y-STR haplotype loci is controlled and administered by an international standards body called HUGO Human Gene Nomenclature Committee based at University College, London.
Each person's collection of DNA values is referred to as their haplotype. Scientist have sorted and classified haplotypes into haplogroups, which provides a clue as to the ancient background of the population. Haplogroup I, sometimes referred to as the "Viking" haplotype, found in Scandanavia and parts of Ireland, Scotland, and England, where it's thought to denote descent from the Viking invaders. Most of our donors belong to Haplogroup I.
