     In the sayd courte [booke] ye shall fynde the inquisicion by the coroners inquest upon the death of ----- who hangd herselffe the xiith daye of August this yere 1658 etc.

CORONER'S INQUEST, 12 NOVEMBER 1650

     Before Thomas Hodgson, alderman, coroner, and Richard Washington junior, Peter Bennett, Thomas Hancock, Thomas Potter, William Sutton, John Evans, Thomas Seddon, Thomas Gorsich, John Dyke, John Wilson, John Rachdall, Richard Greaves. Who, upon oath, presented that Ralph Heton of Hindley was accidentally killed on Monday 11 November from a wound in the forehead by the bursting of a firelock piece discharges by John Hollingworth from a window in the house of Roger Rose in Tithebarn Street where he was quartered.

That the said Elizabeth upon the xxjth day of this instant December about xn of the Clocke at night did casually by mere accident and misadventure falle into a drawe well on the Backside of her Masters William Williamson where by reason of the said Falle she was drowned and perished and by the moveing of the Buckett Chaine Roape and turne ad valenciam vs and what goodes or personall estate shee had the Jurie know not etc [Marginal note.      Inquisicio capta coram prefato Coronatore 8o die Januarii Anno Regni Regis Caroli nunc Anglie etc xviijo 1642 apud Burgum predictum super mortem Roberti Gorsuch de Kirkdale Slater per Sacramentum Johannis Higinson Edwardi Lyle Ricardi Williamson Willelmi Topping Willelmi Wetherbie Thomas Burton Johannis Tompson Ricardi Dwarrihouse Ricardi Farrer Johannis Boulton Thome Warton Ricardi Blackmoore Johannis Wigin Johannis Edge qui dicunt et presentant super sacramentum suum predictum ut sequitur videlicet That upon Saturday being the 7th day of this instant January about Sunn setting the said Robert Gorsuch goeing along in the footway in Liverpoole Townefeild did casually and by misadventure and misfortune falle downe out of the said footway into the Cartway being about 2 yards in haight by reason of which suddan falle the said Robert Gorsuch then and there suddenly dyed the whole force of his Bodie lyghting upon his head and neck which wee fynd to be a meere casualtie without violence or furtherance thereunto by anie person whatsoever. CORONER'S INQUEST, 16 APRIL 1649

     Aprill 16, 1649. Wee whose names are underwritten doe fynde that according to our best Evidence that Richard Johnson did not wilfully cast himself away but by meere misfortune was drowned in the poole the tyde being therein this was the verditt of Thomas Hancock Thomas Andoe John Sturzaker Adam Leathes William Lurtin Ewan Marsh Christopher Bennet Raph Winstanley Robert Eccoes Thomas Seale William Sutton and Peter Seddon upon the death of the said Richard Johnson upon theire oathes taken before Mr Thomas Tarleton Alderman Corroner etc [Marginal note. CORONER'S INQUEST, 1 JULY 1659

     An inquisition taken 1 July 1659 before Thomas Blackmore, alderman, coroner, on the oaths of Thomas Storie, Peter Lurting, John Blundell, John Lurting, smith, Roger Harrison, William Litherland, Thomas Mosse, Hugh Bennett, John Lunt, John Mulliney, William Parker, Robert Lyon, Edward Horrobine, Robert Kenion, Edward Sutton, who say that John Craine, son of John Craine of Liverpool, mariner, on 1 July 1659 was found dead on the sea shore at Liverpool, drowned by accident and we know of no one guilty of his death.

CORONER'S INQUEST, 25 AUGUST 1659

     An inquisition taken 25 August 1659 before Thomas Blackmore, alderman, coroner within the borough, on the oaths of Edmund Leivesley, Henry Ryding, Thomas Chapman, Robert Harvy, Thomas Roe, Thomas Johnson, John Heyes, John Pemberton, Thomas Bridge, Thomas Hancock, Thomas Galway, Robert Leadbeater, lawful and honest freemen, who say that Rachel, the late wife of Simon Arrowsmith, being in the house of Gilbert Formby, alderman, on 24 August about 4 o'clock, was slain by accident and misfortune by the discharge of a flint lock piece, which Thomas Hudson, a soldier under the command of Major Edward Hoore, had in his hands. As he was screwing on the lock in the open street, a bullet broke through a wall and wainscot of the same house and pierced the body of the said Rachel, making a wound from her left pap to he back whereby she immediately died, there being no malice at which to us may appear.

 

CORONER'S INQUEST, 7 OCTOBER 1659

     Inquisition taken at Liverpool on Friday 7 October 1659 before Thomas Blackmore, alderman and coroner, after the death of Robert Greene, corporal of Major Boulton's troop. The jury on their oaths present that Robert Greene on 6 October 1659 about 10 am, being on horseback and going towards Chester at Birkett Pool on the Cheshire side of the Mersey, entered the pool at deep water. His horse lost its footing and turned over several times. The horse landed on the further side, but Robert Greene was by misfortune drowned and found lying dead as the tide ebbed, near the place where he entered the pool. Thomas Blackmore, coroner. CORONER'S INQUEST, 6 APRIL 1660

     Inquisition taken at Liverpool 6 April 1660 before Richard Peircivall, gentleman, mayor and now alderman and coroner for the town, by the oaths of Henry Corles, Robert Kenion, Robert Lyon, Robert Sympson, William Poultney, Richard Rymer, Richard Jones, James Hoult, Robert Harvey, William Gardner, Edward Suton, Humphrey Mercer, honest and lawful freeman, being a jury sworn to inquire of the death of Henry Halsall. They find that the said Henry being in the stable at Mrs Sandiford's, an inn and hostler there, on 1 April instant about 8 o'clock in the evening, was stricken on the left side of his head by a grey mare of Mrs Alice Eaton of Chester, widow, and part of his brains came forth, whereupon the said Henry Halsall immediately died, which was by misfortune and misadventure.

CORONER'S INQUISITION, 27 DECEMBER 1663

     Taken before Thomas Andoe, gentleman, for the honourable William Stanley, esq, coroner of this town, being a sufficient deputy. On the oath of Thomas Asbrooke, Thomas Bridge, Charles Farish, John Moniley, tailor, Richard Jones, Thomas Birch, Thomas Haslam, Thomas Bancks, Thomas Gildars, Thomas Leakfield, Michael Richardson, John Heyes, Robert Leadbow, Anthony Walles, John Whitestones, who present the following: that about 6 o'clock in the morning Elizabeth, wife of William Ackers of Liverpool, to the dishonour of God, became a felo de se, and murdered herself by wilful drowning herself in a well at the back of and belonging to the dwelling house of William Ackers.
