The Surname Index is set out in the format shown below.

To see the original baptism/newspaper/certificate information click on the name highlighted in blue. If the name of only one party to the marriage is highlighted this is because I have a baptism only for the highlighted individual. If baptism information has been found for both parties there is often some discrepancy in the spellings and dates provided and these are indicated thus, ALICE/LAETITIA.

Guide to the CORRECTIONS column

All the entries in this index have been checked against the information provided by the lancsbmd and freebmd websites or the original civil registration indexes. Any discrepancies are highlighted in red.

Most of the discrepancies are of a minor nature (different name or date in GRO index) but if there are alternative spellings of the surname then the marriage will appear in the index under both forms - GRADY (O'GRADY) as well as (O'GRADY) GRADY - with the version obtained from the civil registration indexes in red.

Some of the baptism entries are incomplete or impossible to read and if a name or date has been obtained solely from the civil registration indexes then it will be marked "taken from GRO index" and highlighted in bold red.

A percentage of the marriages found were religious ceremonies, a marriage in a C.of E. church having already taken place some time earlier and I have included a note to this effect in the original 'baptism entry' (see example)

Finally, not all the marriages were found in the civil registration indexes, possibly for any or all of the reasons mentioned above, and this too is indicated in the corrections column.
