"Big" Little Britain
Miss Margaret Wallace researched and wrote these articles to preserve the rich history of the community she loved and had lived in her entire life. And preserving it needed, because in 1971 The Metropolitan Transportation Authority took over 9000 acres of Little Britain, NY to build a new international airport. The many historic homes standing within the condemned acreage were bulldozed, including the home of my parents and of my grandparents. The many families were forced to move and Little Britain literally lost 3/4 of it's population. Today, (the year 2000) most of that land still stands unused, returned to the wild much as it was when settlers first arrived in 1725, it's great history buried in the rubble and it's families disbursed to other communities.
It is my hope to convert these articles into webpages and have no doubt Miss Wallace would approve of such a project. Until I am able to accomplish that however, I have provided the index of articles below. Anyone wishing information from any of the articles, please email me.
